Glad you could bring your hostas with you when you moved. It's a part of your old life brought with you to begin your new life.

Again, Great Work! How many hostas did you plant? Did they all come from your previous house? I love the idea of the shovel in the ground. Unique things in the garden thrill me. Did you notice the rock in the first shovel picture? It looks like an owls head - at least to me. The boy and girl are really nice. Yesterday I got two fairies holding a basket. I'll post a picture once I get the wings mended. The wings were broken so they were on sale and I knew they needed a home. Last night when it was almost dark my husband came out looking for me (and dinner). He asked what I was doing. I told him I was making a patio and walkway for the fairies. He thinks I'm nuts but that's ok he's probably right. McT

LOL! I never realized how much Grand Slam looks like rhubarb! What an accomplishment! KUDOS! (not on the rhubarb looking hosta, I meant on the hard work).Theres just one thing I have to ask, arent you worried about slugs and earwigs hiding under all those rocks? My #1 love is rocks but Ive been weeding (is that even possible)? them out of my yard or am planning on cementing them so those #^$&@ cant hide around the hostas. Last night I left a beer bath for them and caught 22 slugs where I still have more rocks than other places, more than any of the other traps had. Im willing to give up a few (hundred) rocks to keep my hosta leaves whole. Are you using some secret weapon to keep bug from hiding under them?

McTavish, I brought somewhere around 50-60 hostas with me, I believe. Only one duplicate in the bunch. The minis aren't planted yet, but everything else is. I brought them all with me from the previous home, but these were ones I'd bought last fall, and had never been out of the pots yet. I DO see the owl's head in the first shovel pic, but didn't notice it until you pointed it out. It really DOES look like an owl! I love unique things in the garden too. Can't wait to see your fairies... even if your husband did look at you like you were nuts :-)

upnort, about the slugs.... I'm not worried about them hiding under rocks because I have so much mulch that I'm going to have a million of them anyway! The only luck I've had with keeping them under control is to use Sluggo every few weeks. It's awfully expensive but it works. And this yard is so small that it won't be nearly as pricy as in the old place! I figure the pluses of mulch outweigh the negative of the slugs. It keeps the weeds down and keeps the moisture in, plus I like the way it looks. And I absolutely LOVE the Rocks! Try Sluggo if you can afford to. It's great.

Thanx, Ill check into it. Im really not looking forward to cementing all my beds, especially seeing as I change them often and I cant do that If theyre permanent. I never saw an earwig an rarely saw a slug until I bought mulch a couple years ago. I swear the eggs were in there. The earwigs got so bad that I took down every bird house and anything else that they could possibly hide in. Im winning the battle, at least now I can lift my grill cover and not have them flow out. GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! oh....the mulch was red cedar from wal mart if anybodys wondering. 8 bags of creepy crawly crap!
