I broke open some seed pods of mine and planted them, I am also wondering if next year there will be new ones,I broke open butterfly weed pods and just burried them slightly underground last year and they came up,so we will keep our fingers crossed..Tom in Pa...
P.S. Just try and make sure you place something like a marker , near the area where you planted them,otherwise you may think they are weeds and pull them up.. will wait for other posts

I grew Baptisia australis and Baptisia leucantha (white wild indigo) from seed this year using the winter-sowing method. I got excellent germination, but some of the sprouts suffered from some type of wilt. I ended up with 3-4 healthy seedlings of each, although they only grew about 8-9 inches tall in the first year. (This is a very slow growing perennial and can take 3 years or more to flower.)

I purchased the seeds from Prairie Moon nursery and the seeds came scarified and because they're a legume they also came with an inoculum that you're supposed to use to treat the seed. I have no idea if I used the inoculum properly or not.

If you don't pre-treat the seed or winter-sow, I would plant them in the fall and mark the spot carefully so they get the proper cold treatment they'll need to sprout in the spring.
