True blue: Delphiniums, Gentiana asclepiada(not all), many alpine Gentianas, Brunnera, Scilla sibirica, Bellevalia forniculata, Commelina(for very mild climates), Omphalodes verna,Centaurea triumfetti,some Corydalis. There are some rare blue Penstemons, but nearly all are ungrowable here. Plants approaching true blue: some Tradescantias. Iris sibirica Big Blue has a true blue nerve in the middle of the falls. Have never seen a blue Campanula, and I had really many. Amsonias are pastel blue. None of Anemone nemorosa clones is true blue(I had them all).

yes, you'll probably get blooms this year. they are sort of biennuals. i've grown them a couple of times successfully from seed or seedlings, but they were the quicker annual types, and never got really big, but they did bloom. have never been successful getting a stand going of the bi's. i bought a big pack of 'wild' lupines from pinetree last year that are unrefined ones. figured maybe if i got away from the messed with ones- i dunno. maybe they'd be better started in fall like so many bis are. not quite willing to give up yet. good to know sunrise does well here- i think it's really pretty. maybe i'll watch for those seeds again. tam

Hi, I know this is an old post, but thought I might give you some positive experience growing lupines here. I live in Princeton, NJ and have been finally successful growing lupines. In fact, the same plants come back the following year, even bigger; as well as new baby plants coming in volunteer spots! Good luck - it can be done!

Well I'm NOT a blue person. Indoors I have NO blue. My husband doesn't understand this. I have no idea why I feel this way. Outdoors things are different! I have a blue/yellow/white garden bed which I love. Yes, delphineums, catananche, campanulas, baptisia and more, are mixed with trollius, coreopsis moonbeam, peony Claire de Lune and low growing white clematis and aquilegia. It is a big mix and wouldn't be any fun at all without the blue! There are loads of clematis that are purple or blue/purple, but also some very nice blues I think. You do get into the question of "what is blue?" My husband and I think this could well be a male/female issue!
