It seems everyone's rudeness sensitivity has a different adjustment. If you want to see rude, flip on over to the Soils forum or the Organic Gardening forum where it is too common to gang up on one member and flat out call him stupid in so many words. On the corn gluten meal thread which ZS started a week or so ago, he said I had accused him of something but he would ignore it because he wanted to remain positive. It seems to me that ZS is egging us on by posting quotes that fly in the face of what has become common knowledge. When we try to explain either what is wrong with the quote or where the quote left off vital information or where the source quote was taken out of context, then the tone of the messages changes for the worse. To me it is clear who threw the first punch on this thread. Tiemco asked some questions and ZS bit his head off. I offered some clarification and got my head bit off. ZS if you prefer to read books and do not like to read what we have to say in this forum, then why are you here? I'm not saying there is no reason to be here, I'm simply asking why you are here? Are you here to offer us the benefit of what you have read? If that is the case then we will respond completely differently. Most people come here to find out if what they have read holds water. We have made that assumption with you. If we have been giving you advice when you were not looking for it, then that might be the root of the antagonism. Giving unwanted advice is considered rude to a lot of folks. Please let us know. You can establish your credentials based on what you read outside the forums and we'll leave it alone. I might add that disagreeable messages are one reason that forums lose membership. I've seen some really great people leave this forum simply because of one or two members who pestered them mercilessly. If you would not like to receive our thoughts and comments on your threads, it is easy enough to make that happen. Since I seem to be a catalyst for you, ZS, and since I don't see where my remarks are setting you off, then I'll stop replying with these thoughts and let you go.

Yep still water those guys;). Not as much as you would in the summer, but just enough. Watering once a month may be enough in the cooler temps. That's something your going to have to feel out yourself. Some of my Echeveria and Pachys look better in the winter. My Echeveria 'Cante' always looks better in the winter. The summer is hot and I don't water enough so they shut down a little. I have some Echeveria and Pachys that are starting to bloom now. We haven't had much rain yet. So a few days ago I had to water a bunch of plants;). This doesn't count some of my in ground stuff;).

Ammonium sulfate and urea will definitely create green in bermuda. Other grasses might burn, but not bermuda. Do you use it monthly, every 6 weeks, or what? I don't know if it's what I feed them or the organic fertilizer, but my dogs have never had fleas. Now I've probably jinxed it. While you're at the feed store getting the rocket fuel for bermuda, you can also pick up some alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow, not horse cubes) to use as organic fertilizer. The application rate is 15 pounds per 1,000 square feet. You can use it any day of the year including the days you use the ammonium sulfate/urea. Organic fertilizers do not interact with chemical fertilizers, but they help to keep the soil microbes healthy. Alfalfa pellets are a lot cheaper than commercially bagged organic fertilizers. I understand about your neighbor ignoring you. It is very hard to give advice to friends, neighbors, or relatives. Did you tell him about overdosing on fertilizer? One of the most common mistakes is watering too frequently. That will turn most lawns brown. I'm not sure what I said about my arm/shoulder, but I did get a hip replacement and tore a quad tendon last spring and summer. I didn't do a thing to the yard, so this is a year for catching up on bermuda trying to take over. All the rain really helps while we're still only allowed to water one day per week. I don't think we've watered for 2 months and might make it through July before turning on the sprinklers.

I need more lights! I dug up a few bulbs last fall and had them in my garage until we started getting below zero temps outside, then I brought them in. They're still in the house but I haven't tried to pot any up yet. It's mostly Caladiums, Cannas and Sweet potato vine. I also had a big pot of salvia Purple and Bloom in my garage that I brought in. It has broken dormancy now and has some little two inch sprouts so I guess I'll keep it in the house and just treat it as a houseplant until it's warm enough to put it outside. I was going to put it back in the garage after the cold spell but the cold spell lasted too long. I have potted citrus (lemons, kiwi lime, and blood orange) that I kept in the house all winter. I'm pretty sure my garage is too cold for those. Also mandevilla and Jasmine. I have trouble finding which plants NEED dormancy but can't be left outside here. My attempts at keeping geraniums over winter years ago were unsuccessful but maybe because my garage gets below freezing. Colocasia is borderline here. I left mine in the ground last year and it didn't come back. I need to replace it. I left a canna in the ground that I didn't care for and of course it came back. lol
