Help me ID this hosta

I have an old time hosta, it's been growing in front of my house since I bought it 12 years ago and probably 10 or 20 or 30 years before that. It looks like honeybells but the flowers are more lavender (darker than the photos i've seen of honeybells), they are not fragrant, they do not set seed, the scapes will grow up to 3 feet tall and they bloom in late July in southern New York. The foliage looks exactly like honeybells though. If someone can tell me how to include a photo in my post I'll post a photo of it. Any ideas?

It sounds like it could be Undulata Erromena.

My large-leaf recommendation is Lakeside San Kao, looks like nothing else... starts lime, turns near-white with green veining. See the photolinks I left on another thread here (three in one note, one in another).

Congratulations, MrGary.....you've done an outstanding job. I am saving your post to my clippings so I can go back to it easily for reference. I think the one you cannot remember might be Alex Summers. It sure looks like mine. I won't picture it here, but mine is about the same age as yours....I'm just a sophomore with hosta myself, so our plants are "of an age." I'm pleased to see you are growing Banyai's Dancing Girl. It looks almost like Blue Cadet, and it is a very inexpensive choice to mass plant. Van Wade suggests it as an edger if you ever need such a feature. I edge with liriope here in zone 9a. But I am making a collection of the smaller blue hosta such as BC and BDGirl since I don't like being redundant and I like variety. Things such as Drummer Boy, Dear Hearts, Happy Hearts, Cheatin Heart (golden), Golden Tiara, Grand Tiara, Twist of Lime, Lemon Lime, Feather Boa....well, I fibbed, I just like the smaller mounding hosta blue or gold or green! Thanks for treating us to a beautiful garden.

Melissa - The hostas were at this house before I moved in... the pictures are from the south corner of my front porch and, as you can see, there are tons of them! On the north corner, however, there are only two little ones. I want to even them out so my front yard (which faces a busy highway) looks a little more balanced. They just look so crowded there and since they are big, I figured it wouldn't hurt to divide them to put more at the other end of the porch. Plus, like Ken pointed out, they're really too close to the edge of the porch to really flush out all nice and round, so I want to pull them out a little further and let them "breathe." Thanks for the suggestions on the easy division method... hostas are starting to be my 'thing,' but my knowledge level is pretty limited :) You all are so very helpful and friendly! Looks like the classic "green-and-white one" - another vote for Undulata Albomarginata... and note that Undulata is capitalized, not small... back in the day we called it H. undulata 'Albomarginata' when we believed there was a species undulata. and I believe current thinking is that this one is actually not closely related to the other ones we know as Undulata... Undulata, Undulata Mediovariegata, Undulate Erromena, U Univittata They are all described as "Parentage Unknown." We do know that hostas were introduced to Europe and the US by ambassadors bringing them back as ornamental plants... I'm thinking in the late 1800s... and given the rapidity with which this one reproduces and the way its been around for so long - so it wouldn't likely ever be put in tissue culture and it probably was maybe never necessary to import more stock from Japan, and it rapidly became known as "the friendship plant" because it was so easy to pass along... it is entirely possible that this plant is a direct clone from one of those brought to the US by sailing ship all that time ago...

Ken taught me how to do this, so I'll teach you. (I tend to overdo detail, so forgive the extra verbiage.)
I assume you know how to get the pictures on your computer, so I'm just going to tell you how to get them on gardenweb (and in emails when you can't send an attachment).
1. Set up a photobucket.com account - it's free. Just go there, sign up and remember your password.
2. Sign into your photobucket account. Click on "upload images and videos". Your list of files will come up.
3. Navigate to the files you want to share. Click on it. (If you want to upload more than one, hold down the shift key while clicking on them.) The file will then be uploaded to photobucket.
4. Your photo(s) will come up. you can add names and descriptions here. Click "save".
5. Your photos will come up on a page titled "in this album".
6. Click on the photo. It will come up in a new window. On the left-hand side of the page is a box with a bunch of stuff in it. Click on "HTML Code". A little yellow box comes up saying "copied".
7. Now, go to your gardenweb post and wherever you want the photo, just hit CTRL and V keys at the same time and a bunch of gibberish will paste to your message. (If not, you did not get the HTML code copied and pasted to your post - do it again.)
8. On gardenweb, hit the "preview message" button and you'll see your photo.
While writing this tutorial, I walked through the process I use. There are many more ways to do it, I'm sure. There are lots more photo sites other than photobucket. I'm just telling you how I do it.
