I know this is mostly an ID forum, but I happened upon a blooming patch of Monotropa uniflora on a hike this morning in the mountains north of Vancouver. As it's native, I thought I would post here.

It's a parasitic plant (not a fungus!) that lacks chlorophyll, and the only visible part of it is the flower column. The rest of the plant is a system of roots that steal nutrients from nearby conifers. So, like the giant Rafflesia, if you see it at all, you only see the flowers. Thought this might be of interest...
