1. Morning glories don't like cold. Perhaps you put them out too soon. I haven't even sown mine yet. 2. As I recall, MGs like to be in the sun, but their roots shaded (accomplished by the mere fact of the plant growing.) Start another batch in a week or two, then put them outside. (Or do them 'winter sowing' style already outside in a milk-jug) Enjoy! I've got the REs in my stash to do, too.

Hi Nick, Yep! At Baker's...mine was a just $20 pipsqueak, but with all this continuing warm weather, he's already grown quite a lot and is continuing to sprout new leaves! And he's a gorgeous deep green, even without the flowers! I think he's very happy in his very sunny, warm spot in my southern exposure backyard. As for my location, I'm in the Coronado Historic District, not far from Good Sam hospital. Having been to Encanto Palmcroft for the annual home tours (i.e. I know where it is!), I feel it's safe to say you'd have as good a chance as I would for success! Perhaps it's the heat-island effect, the lack of elevation, proximity to the airport, but whatever the cause, it's generally warmer here during frosts than elsewhere in the valley. Still, I'm going to baby it each winter for a while...covering it during frosts, or even putting some old-style christmas lights around its base if needed. I think an important thing to consider is where in your yard you should plant it. You can't really take advantage of garnering tons of radiant heat by planting it right next to the house, because it's a very lateral-oriented tree, and will need room to spread. I opted for roughly the middle of my backyard because it gets full sun in the winter (south exposure), and I've got rocks back there that reflect the heat pretty well. Of course there's mulching, too. Hope that helps...keep us posted! Assuming yours is only $20 like mine, I think it's definitely worth a try! PS. Not sure if now is the best time to plant it; or whether it's best to wait till spring at this point(keeping it in a container in the meantime so you can bring indoors if it gets frosty?). My concern with planting it right now is that if we get a sudden cold snap right after transplanting- that may cause some issues? I invite others to chime in if I'm wrong, but it might be better to actually plant it in spring? Hmmmmm...

HehHehHeh - I have a Meidland Rose which is a rambler, horribly thorny, bores through steel chain link fencing enlarging its holes, presents spectacular white clusters of flowers that are truely breathtaking in their sheer abundance, doesn't get black spot, has so many small leaves that the Japanese Beetles are not populous enough to decimate it like other roses, and likes to be hacked to the ground in the winter - if it doesn't eat your skin first with you trying to get to the canes. It can take over an entire side yard and when watered manages to weigh down power and telephone lines and has been auditioned to be the star of the next Stephen King movie. Oh yeah, if you fertilize it, it dies. Sounds like just what you need. Seriously, any rose that you like the color and/or scent of is right for you. If you don't want to fuss with it, let it be. The price of a potted rose is equal to a McDonald's hamburger and you have long forgotten THAT cost. Why stress over a rose? There are lots to be bought next season so think of them as annuals and not as a lifelong commitment. I know, I know, there are enthusiasts, but to me, life is too short to agonize over having the "right" bush and I'd rather DH buy me a dozen cut roses than stress over a McDonald's hamburger for 6 months. It was the best wedding I have ever seen. Her dress was stunning and much like Kate’s sister, Pippa, wore which wowed everyone. No it wasn't from the Say Yes To the Dress collection where people want their cowboy boots to go with the dress. Or the dress is corseted with big boobs hanging out. The style is very chic and reminds me of the high style of the 1940s.I am Episcopalian and very proud that our presiding bishop gave a heartwarming speech about love. Stand By Me refers to the Lord in this instance and as well as the couple. The are soooo many different Anglicans and some who would not welcome gay people in their church. The difference in traditional Episcopalians is they would ask them to join us. The choir is as Episcopalian in their choices as any other because they have a choice. Also there are many Episcopal churches who have predominantly black members because that's how they started after slavery ended - if you are wondering. Love trumps all. I loved every bit of their choices and say Huzzah to a ceremony that made people feel so positive about diversity in a negative world.
