Pleiospilos Nelii Question
Comments (7)Erin, Pleiospilos are not anywhere near as sensitive to water as lithops. I know the rule about not watering when they're splitting but I really think that applies mostly to Lithops and some other cousins. All my Pleios' live outside and get watered regularly and rained on along with almost everything else. I even have them in mixed containers with Crassula and Adromischus and haven't had any problems. I remember when you got these because I was insanely jealous of you finding that 'royal flush' at HomeDepot. If you haven't watered them since then, I'd recommend it....See MorePleiospilos nelii in bloom
Comments (5)wally: You were right, I was wrong. It is indeed another bud coming on the other plant. I guess I should have realized it was too early in the season for the new leaves to start emerging. As I just posted separately, I'm thinking of merging this plant in with some lithops and maybe an E. obesa if they are compatible.. Buds, buds, everywhere!...See MorePleiospilos Nelii Royal Flush
Comments (5)well, from my limited time caring for these, they love all the light they can get. BRIGHT light. You dont want to water these as much as other succulents. You could even go for a month without watering it. If you're having trouble with light, I bought a 6500k light bulb from HD and a really cheap work lamp with a clip. They're doing really well under it I have to say! They can get sunburn from excessive heat, so placing them near the window on a really hot day might lead to sudden death... One of mine got sunburned like that and I almost lost it to rot. Normally, p.nelii are only supposed to have 2 pairs of leaves. Any more they say is a sign of more water than necessary. The older leaves can get a bit wrinkly and soft, but that's normal it's a sign the new baby leaves are absorbing the old ones. As long as the new leaves are nice and firm, you're okay. IF THE PLANT is brown and/or very mushy, it's rotting! good drainage is a must. If the p. nelii is damp for too long, it'll rot fast. Which, might spell trouble for the other succulent in the pot. The other one looks like it will need more water than the p. nelii, so I would move one of them to a different pot. You just need to find a way where the water regiments of other succulents won't hurt the p. nelii. Also, I'm not familiar with where you live, but if it's humid there, you'll want to be careful with watering the p. nelii. it doesnt like too much humidity. hope this helps a little....See MorePleiospilos nelii 'Royal Flush' score at Walmart!
