peach trees and sour cherries

Good morning!

You piqued my interest in trying to grow fruit trees when you were virtually creating your ideal kitchen/fruit garden. Solana, I believe, mentioned a self-fruitful, hardy peach variety 'Reliance', and...was it MadGallica?...who mentioned sour cherries 'Montmorency' or something like that? They both make it sound easy. But other reading I've been doing (backyard orchards, cornell hort) make pest management (organic) and pruning sound quite onerous, especially for the peach.

I would greatly appreciate some real input from real New England gardeners. Am I biting off more than I can chew? Is it worth the effort? Don't our rainy springs invite tons of disease for fruit trees? How bad is oriental fruit moth? Etc.

Thanks!

ML
