Salal

Hi, folks, I'm not a regular in this forum, but I've been looking for information and/or sources for salal, which is a native shrub in the Pacific Northwest. Does anyone know if there's any reason this plant wouldn't do well in the Midwest? And does anyone know where I can get some? I have a lot of tall trees in my back yard and I'd like to establish some shrubby undergrowth. Plus I've heard the foliage is good for cut flower arrangements -- unless there's another plant called salal.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.
