Darn. I was hoping it was some type of native phlox. This stuff is ALL over this wooded area. There are also white ones that look similar. Is there a white version?

I think that's it! Ironically, I don't think I've ever seen the flower open, pointing up, but only hanging down. Goes to show how much shade we get around here. FYI, the scientific name is Claytonia virginica. Thanks for your help, everyone!

coatfetish, that's a nice crabapple, I can smell it's fragrance all the way up here. I have a way to get the tree you want, take cuttings. This pic shows rooted cuttings of my 'Tina' crab. Knock on your neighbor's door and ask for cuttings. Do this around the end of May or anytime in June. The medium I use is 50/50 peat-perlite. I also use a rooting hormone. I put mine under mist and they are rooted within a month. Since you probably won't have access to mist you can create a propagation chamber, this has been discussed many times here. You could also use a cold frame, out of the sunlight and keep the top closed. PS, if you do this, don't take 5 or 6, take 100. That way you can keep the strongest ones for yourself and give away the rest.

I love my 'heirloom' mock orange (I don't know the name b/c it was here when we bought the house 20 years ago). No scent (I'm in a Boston suburb), but otherwise a glorious shrub. Mine is 12' high x 8' wide. Was planted decades ago, and has never failed me in 20 years - even when I had to cut alot off it mid-summer due to poison ivy wrapped around it bloomed the next spring (June for me) and always has alot of healthy green stems (canes?). Provides privacy screen from neighbors' driveway and the street.
