Woody, about being rich enough, Getty's choice to make a re-creation of an ancient villa was, in architectural circles, thought to be quite cheesy and not the best use of all his dough. I'll leave such debates to the experts. Mitch even mentioned the crowd he runs with disdains the Getty as an elite "white man's" enthusiasm, not representative of other cultures, etc. If a guilty pleasure, so be it... PM, the Italian cypress is often planted near cemetaries and holy sites in Italy, which is in large part due to their nondisruptive root systems. Re the photos, when I sharpened the image through Picassa, the water drops came into focus. I like these simple fountains too, that could easily reside at a private residence. (And Mitch is a tad over 6 feet!) Kathy, it was a beautiful day. I don't get out to Malibu much anymore, since the drive through the westside and Santa Monica is always so jammed, and PCH backs up. But the drive was easy, no traffic, the ocean was full of surfers bobbing in the waves. Back in high school, I drove out to Malibu quite often with my buddies (occasionally during weekdays! ahem...)

Here is another photo of the plant with ridged leaves - I had not seen one like this before and had no idea what it is. It is probably not worth cultivating and probably does not make showy flowers:While I did find it interesting as an anomaly (to me, at least), I suspect that it does not have interest by very many others. I saw one in Costa Rica in 2015 that looked somewhat similar - I think I may have posted a photo of that already. Picture 7 is of a Vriesea Philippo Coburgii, similar to this:which is one of the more common bromeliads in this part of Brazil. The other one is one that I've not seen before but would love to have, and I did take more photos of it. Incidentally, I took over 350 photos in this park, and so I'm having to select ones that might look interesting while trying not to post ones that look too similar. The fundamental issue is that fan/blower flow rates are measured in open air. The result is the zero static pressure flow rate. In a hood with filter, shape transitions, duct losses, and make-up air pressure losses, the actual flow rate is likely to be in the 200 - 300 CFM region. An 18-inch x 30-inch hood has an entry area of 3.75 square feet. At 90 CFM/sq.ft., the actual flow rate called for is ~ 340 CFM, requiring a motor rated at 500 CFM or higher, depending on myriad factors. And even if this is achieved, if the cooking plume is not entirely captured due to a smaller than needed hood aperture, there will still be grease, moisture, and odor escaping into the room.

Hello Houzz Community! I found this thread when Googling a similar topic. I'd like to replace my under cabinet hood with a wall mounted hood, and yes I know I have to remove the cabinet above the current hood which I'm fine with (see photo). My existing under cabinet hood vents out the wall to the side of my house - see photo, and note the vent is not blocked by those shrubs, there is space around it, you just can't tell from the angle of the photo :-) So my question is....can a wall mounted hood be installed to vent out the existing vent in the wall, or does a vent need to be created in the ceiling? Also, what type of professional can help answer any related questions I have about this? Would I ask the wall mounted vent manufacturer? Or a handyman? Thank you in advance for any guidance! I am a newbie homeowner and am learning as I go, so truly appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with me!
