I harvested seeds from what I think is a Butterfly Bush. Purchased two plants and put them in the ground in early summer. A month ago, I noticed pods on each plant: about 2 1/2 in long and stuffed full of something. One plant had 6 pods; the other had 4. Not sure what causes the bursting of the pods, but I scooped out small dark brown, very thin seeds with light, wispy, white threads attached to one end. (Had I not gathered the seeds, I'm sure wind would have carried them away.) As an experiment, I planted 5 seeds in a pot. Watched them closely and soon I had 3 new plants popping up. Have nurtured them along and I now have 3 8-inch tall plants. I'm watching the remaining full pods. I want to capture their seeds before the wind distributes them around my garden.

hi debrashawn, i bought two already started b.e.s.v. plants from a garden centre last year. they looked beautiful, but unfortunately never produced seed. i loved the plant so much, i ordered some seeds from stokes seeds. i will give you the directions for outdoor sowing from the packet. i started mine indoors about 6 weeks ago and they are still quite small but i am keeping my fingers crossed. the (latin)? name for this plant is: thunbergia alta (that is what is on the packet). the directions say that you should sow indoors apr.1st as plants are rather slow to grow and need lots of heat for germination so outdoor sowing should not be attempted till mid june.at this late date, you may not see much of a show until august. plant 1/4 inch deep and about 3inches apart. i really don't know if this will be much help to you, but it is certainly worth a try b/c they are such a beautiful plant. where did you get the seeds? did they not come with directions? i am sorry for my blabbing on and on! good luck! lisa

I don't know if you know Dr. Phil on TV. He had a program on this very subject. His wife went through this and she told of her experience. Her formula's are on his web site. I am 51 and suffer from hot flashes and have had headaches at least 2 weeks out of the month ever since I can remember(Dr. said period related). Once I started taking them I noticed no headaches. I stopped taking them they came back. I started they went away. I have done this again same thing. I also don't have the sweats either. I plan on staying on them I feel so much better.

I would get a racing heart rate when I took Black Cohosh and I am allergic to soy, so my doctor suggested ground flax seed and that has helped me tremendously with all of my menopausal issues, plus has lowered my ldl 80 points. I take 4 tbls daily. Flax seed oil is not as beneficial as the seed. It is a phytoestrogen so it's best to check with your doctor if you are estrogen sensitive. When my grandmother was going through menopause in the late 1950's, early 60's, I remember her grinding flax seed everyday and she would comment to my grandfather how it kept her from getting too hot. I was only 5 at the time so I didn't have a clue as to what she meant lol.
