WOW. a really beautiful vine. and one I'd really like to have. But I am also aware that conditions in Romania are far from what it needs and I'd probably never get it to bloom. But... coincidence...I also visited that part of Thailand. Sounded familiar, the name of the island. I guess I was not really into exotics back then:(

I asked Sandy this exact question the other day. She said the strongest genetic is the plain pink. So if you had a seedpod from a plain pink they will prob all be pink. There is a small chance that your pink plant might have been the result of a seed from a seedpod from a a different colour plant (a white for example) and so by genetic background you may get some white flowered seedlings. Also If you had a seedpod from a purple or a red then some seedlings may be purple or red but the majority would still be pink. She said in some cases though she has got a seed pod from a yellow and all have turned out pink :/ Hope that made sense. :P Sarah

That was a very informative post, didn't have any daylily seeds saved so skipped over the thread. I've lurked on the daylily forum and seen the photo results of various crosses, fascinating business, and like was said, every seedling even through controlled pollination bloomed differently if crossed w/another. At this point I'm kind of lukewarm about most daylilies, don't like the coral ones in my part shade bed but hate to get rid of them. I'm really excited about a clump of yellow ones I'm getting going. Maybe it's heresy to say this, but I'm not that enthralled with the super fancy frilly ones, maybe an exception or two. I've been waiting for Wild's to start Brave Heart again, guess they do it in 3-year cycles and missed it last spring. They always send me a freebie, and that's how I got the first two yellows, now I've ordered Going Bananas, supposed to bloom longer. One freebie I put out by the fire hydrant. Dogs do their thing on it but it's multiplied and has really pretty red blooms, Baja, not to be confused with the Baja Asian. I may try something with those yellow ones, soft yellow, not greenish leaning on the color chart, may try to cross some of those with each other. But the ditch lilies have got to go. I dislike them intensively. Except by the roadsides in the country.

Rivers1202 - they kinda are a weed! most people pull them. They are just a pretty weed so some people wouldn't mind keeping them around. I myself like lespedeza and always leave some of it in the flowerbeds. I don't hate purslane either, nor violets... Speaking of cassia - do any of you grow the big tropical cassia commonly known as Candlestick Tree? a friend gave me a seed, which I planted in May. It is now a monster plant. Hard to believe such a big thing would come from such a tiny little seed. I haven't taken a picture of it yet - I was waiting for it to bloom this fall. Right now I like the leaves so much I don't really care if it blooms. The seed is the size of bell pepper seed yet the 3 month old plant is head high and has a stem about 2 inches thick! Same thing with a papaya I grew from seed. Once it got hot that thing took over - in one season it went from a foot high skinny seedling to an 8 foot tall tree with a trunk as thick as my arm.
