Trillium, trillium EVERYWHERE!

I didn't discover native woodland plants until late last spring (thanks to you guys on gardenweb), at which time i went out to my backyard and discovered jack in the pulpits. I was beyond excited to find a treasure in my own yard.

All season long, I though all 3 leafed things were jacks...

This spring, I've watched everything come up. Well I see a TON of "jack in the pulpits", but after seeing how those come up, Its clear that not only do I have Jacks, my yard is completely overun w/trillium!!!! They look nothing alike when the emerge from the ground.

YAY!!!! I have such a new outlook on my garden-I never pull anything out and I love seeing what grows here naturally.

Maybe now I can return the trillium I bought at Home Depot.

I'll pack my bags and move in there with you tommorrow.

lol... good for you,, protect that site! Watch for the invasives and pull them out.

the saddest part of this story is that when I mved into this house, we had a small untended backyard w/several trees. I came in and had most of them cut down. Then the stumps grinded.

I felt so much guilt and thats one decision I'll regret for the rest of my life. It started this obsession with natives and a more natural approach to gardening. I guess something good came of it!

I've been working so hard to replant other natives and to keep invasives in check to try and restore what that area was before I came in a ruined it.

I can't beleive how many things are thriving back there after all the abuse I inflicted on it. I can tell you one thing, i will never tear a tree down or rip anything out unless absolutely necessary!!

Now I have to plant a tree to better shelter all these jacks and trilliums b/c i've opened the canopy so much some are in alot of sun.

Trillium catesbaei does that too (white to pink). They are "nodding" and have reflexed petals. My grandiflorum are starting to get pink about now... never "purple" though.

Each state makes it's own laws on plants that are legal to dig and what makes it legal. Some states you had to have a license to collect certain wild plants. Other states there are no state laws just federal. There for if you live in NY but the plants were dug in NC the laws for NC should be the ones followed. Somewhere I read that some companies are getting around the laws for trading in wild dug plants by putting them in a nursery bed for a couple of weeks. They can then sell as nursery grown. Not. If your store has the plants I would recomend purchasing but try to get store to stop ordering. Some times the store only sells what is sent from their headquarters and can not stop the placement. Although it is wrong to sell wild dug plants in these tiny bags if someone does not purchase they will go into the trash. Rather than see them trashed I feel the lesser of the two evils is to try to give the plants life while trying to stop the sales.

Daniel, the best place on Gardenweb to look for plants is the Plant Exchange Forum. You might also try the Native Plant Exchange Forum, but it's less active. Also, some of the other forums, like the Hosta Forum, have exchange pages. This Forum is used for discussion. BTW, I noticed the comments on your Member Page. Sounds like way too much drama. Maybe it's none of my business, but if I were you, I'd move those comments to your thread on the Rate & Review Exchanges Forum or just delete them all together. You only have two reviews and your other one is really really good. You could also get others, that you have already traded with, add good comments to your Rate & Review thread. I wouldn't let one rotten egg stink up your reputation.

Nice plants. I added a few to my woodland garden. I am outside of its native range but they have been more vibrant and robust than the T. grandiflorum I added to the same garden which is native to my area. FataMorgana
