Help Needed For Permanent Container Plantings

triciae

I've never tried to overwinter a permanent container planting. Most of my New England gardening experience is in Z5 but now that we've moved to a warmer area (Z6b/7a)...I'm thinking there must be shrubs (or perennials) that would overwinter.

I know I'd have to use a container that would not crack so I'd,probably, use whisky barrels.

Anybody have any success with this and, if so, what are you growing and what type of container? Also, do you water during winter?

Thanks for the help.
