The fragrance for Jude is just delicious - to me the fragrance is of the fruit lychee, and it sort of has a slight tangy or spicy kick to it - you just can't get enough of it. Unfortunately though I find the blooms do terribly as a cut flower, rarely lasting more than 2 or 3 days even if cut early. If you cut them too early, they may remain balled up and not fully open. But the after a day or two the petals drop at the slightest nudge. The color I find starts of a translucent lemony yellow that ages well to a more opaque and paler peach color. Reminds me very much of the aging of Carding Mill or Brother Cadfael blooms. The flowers can be quite heavy though and I find that my plant can have trouble supporting the blooms. Jude hates shade, but can't handle too much direct sun. Seems to repeat poorly (but that may due to my somewhat shadier position). Just ordered Lady Emma this season, I can't wait!

hi Marina, sure, I'm pretty sure my plants come from DA Texas. I ordered them via DA US online. In the past I've generally had very nice and strong 3 cane bareroots from them. Although once I ordered late in the season and 2 of them had a really hard time getting established in the ground due to the heat. One of them I've since moved into a pot and it has done really well. The other has become established, but I don't think it is as full as it could have been. I also tried a 2 pack from Costco last season, which has done really well. Unfortunately, my experience with own root plants from Chamblees has not been great - of the 3 out of 4 still alive, 2 of them are spindly, weak very sad plants. But this latest order was from DA US. They did send me a monster St Swithun Clg as a substitute though - this thing was a monstrosity, 4-5 strong canes and maybe 3 inches thick at the root stock shaft. I thought maybe no one orders this particular rose? =)

Hot on the trail of the Rare Fruit Orchard near the freeway that stanofh had suggested existed in San Jose ... I found it ... right next to the 280 ... a freeway! The Prusch Farm is an old estate that was donated to the city and is a good place to bring your kids for a picnic and outing. Most of the grounds are occupied by a huge open grassy field in the middle, but there are two garden centers which are worked by volunteers and which are generally closed and fenced off to the public. Else, the orchards and other areas are accessible. There are some other areas which are used administratively by the park employees and these too, are off limits to the public. Here's the old Prusch farmhouse ... And you'll have these dinosaur descendants to keep you company ... And hey, look ... they label the fruit trees ... Only a few of the trees in the International Rare Fruit grove were producing fruit this early in the year, while others, especially, the various varieties of Cherry, were in bloom. And some Banana too ... There are also flowering plants like this cool blue one ... I have to apologize as I don't know what these beauties are. This blue cluster is on a tree ... Here's 'El Jardin', one of the Garden Centers worked by volunteers ... This is a neat plant that is very prevalent on the farm ... And there are Oak Trees that literally cover the ground with their acorns ... Here's something different ... Calla Lillies ... I wonder how badly this cat would like a chicken dinner? And the chickens dig these holes as a way to cool down by laying in the colder soil they turn up ... Old Farm Implements ... They're great for photo art ... Every Farm has got to have a barn ... and livestock ... Oh, Oh, Oh. Hold on a second ... This reminds me as it's time to go ... Beef? Pork? Chicken? Picnic Tables? Hot Coals? Sounds like its time for Bar-B-Que! Yep! Diversity is a wonderful thing. It's a bad photo because it suffered from camera jitter, but check out this old meat smoking truck they put inside this restaurant ... And check out the napkins on the tables ... rolls of paper towels. Now that's a barbeque place! And hey, look ... they label the fruit trees ... This is my favorite of all my crinums. Mine doesn't have a really strong fragrance but it does smell good. This plant was in the ground several years before it bloomed so maybe yours just needs a little more time to establish.
