Eskimo Kisses, Emma's Heart Stopper, and other pIcs

Lots of rain, but still thought the flowers were pretty.

I really like Eskimo Kisses. It puts out a lot of blooms, has a bit of diamond dusting and doesn't seem affected by insects.

Tropical Jewel tends to get spotty easily, but the color just screams "Look at Me" and it has a Lot of buds on it.

Somewhat Beautiful in good form yesterday.

Westbourne Miss Personality was listed as having a LOT of buds (I'm thinking 45 or 50, but I might be wrong) But I like the white and it does have quite a bud cluster

Pacific Moon almost always does well for me. Here it is against Hosta Guacamole

Here is Emma's Heart Stopper. It didn't stop my heart last year,but I like it much better this year.

And What was labeled "Blast From the Past" and is obviously not. LOL It actually blooms quite a bit, but I'm debating whether or not to keep or trade out as I have a lot of peachy colors.

Very pretty colors!I really like Eskimo Kisses and Tropical Jewels. Emma's heartstopper is lovely too and I have become really forn of those bow shaped blooms. Good day and lovely blooms.

Hey, great blooms in spite of all the dratted rain we have been having! Eskimo Kisses is my pick of the batch but I really like the picture of Somewhat Beautiful with the rain drops. Those Hosta Guacamole look so surreal in that picture, like some alien landscape in the dusky light. Great picture.

cjrosaphile, I was looking at OOTN just yesterday--I've been planning to shovel prune it, but of course now it's covered with buds that look like they might open. I'm trying to decide if I should give it just one more year. I hate it when they turn beautiful just when you're ready to give them the axe! If yours looks this bad too, maybe they just don't like the PNW & I should go ahead and make room for someone else. I gave Golden Buddha away, and I haven't been sorry at all. Looking at the pictures on HMF, it looks like it's just an orange rose. There's a photo of a 4-year-old mature plant---lots of blooms, but plain and orange. If that's what you're looking for, great, but it didn't work for me. I am loving Louisa Stone. She was just planted this spring, so she's not even established. She still has blooms--a little haggard looking since she has gotten practically no water in the past 2 months of record high temperatures, but the plant looks healthy and shows no sign of disease. It'll be interesting to see how she gets thru the winter. I've put in a couple other Harkness roses (Jacqueline DuPre & International Herald Tribune) and have more on order--Harkness looks like a breeder whose roses do well in my yard. I have a bunch more roses coming in the next couple of weeks (had to hit that Ashdown final sale), so anybody that's borderline might get the axe when I find out just how much I've over-bought for the space I have! Another reason to buy more roses--it pushes you to get rid of those that don't really work. Maybe I should get just a couple more...

Joy, I grow a quite a number of old Wild daylilies. My mom bought from them when the Wild family still owned the business. They used to have a lot of their plants on a list, if you picked $100 worth you paid $50, so she bought a lot. We still grow all of those and a whole lot more and newer cultivars on the family farm in Indiana. They have all done very well there. Most of them are dormants. BUTTERFLY KISSES, GENTLE BLESSING(still a great white),SCHOOL GIRL(a favorite--have it in a front yard bed,smaller flower, but a beauty),BEN ARTHUR DAVIS(a very large flower, lovely pastel),JIM'S PICK(will probably always have this one,love it--one of the first edge-no-eye),GOLLIWOG. All have done very well, are huge clumps at the farm now. MOJAVE SUNSET--beautiful huge bloom, very vigorous LAKE MORMAN SUNSET--another very pretty flower FUCHSIA DREAM--can't beat the color and I like UF's LOIS BURNS--giant spidery type yellow GREY WITCH--fairly new to my garden--doing well even in the shade All of these have been great plants for us. OAKE'S LOVE--this one died for me, didn't have a very good garden position, but I didn't replace it--an EV and they can be iffy for me. My daughter lived in Olympia for 4 years. I sent her some daylilies. Two oldies LADY NEVA and HUDSON VALLEY did fantastic for her. Her clumps were so big when she left that she divided them and gave a bunch of them away. She was afraid that the new owners might not appreciate them and might destroy them, so she left some, but the biggest share went to friends who would care for them. They both have huge blooms. There are undboubtedly others. I'm trying to stick solely to first/last name....although there's also YAZOO VOLETA PATE. The story behind this one is very funny. Some years ago, I promptly ordered VOLETA when I saw it in a price list....you see, I misread it. I thought the name was YAZOO VIOLET PLATE, and I thought I'd be getting a flat-faced violet daylily. After it bloomed, I made an appointment to get my eyes checked LOL. (I told you my lists have not been completely organized yet....was not kidding about that.) If I were to add in all the daylilies with any kind of feminine aspect to the name, the list would be much longer still.... from ALLISON'S BLUSH and ANGEL KIM to RED SALLY and VIVACIOUS VICKI, with NED'S BETTINA in between. Somewhat Beautiful is very beautiful!!

Rita, I love that hosta! It was the first hosta I ever bought and I still think it's one of the best . Then again, I only own 3, so I'm probably not the best judge.
Kay, no worries, my phone changes my words into some very interesting alternates and I sometimes don't catch them until I've sent. ;) And thank you, I love taking pictures and have the added incentive of trying to outdo my husband who is almost maddeningly artistic photographically.

I can't chose one, they are all beautiful. Somewhat Beautiful is looking good today! Quacamole is a beautiful Hosta. it's storming here now and lots of rain. We had 3 " day before yesterday. Praise the Lord because it's really hard to water here!! Ellie

Really like the picture of your hosta/daylily combo. Pacific Moon is a nice color, I may have to investigate that one...The rest are very nice too....Maryl

Thanks for looking :) I like the tongue-in-cheek -iness of the "Somewhat" series also. JT had mentioned that Somewhat Peculiar was named for his wife and I would love to know the story behind that one. Lol

I had 'Eskimo Kisses' on my wish list and now I wish I'd ordered it...yours is so pretty and I love the color. Back
it goes on the wish list for next year.
But that 'Somewhat Beautiful' should be renamed 'Downright
Gorgeous'!! So, so pretty.
