Stinky vine identification

We purchased a 130 year old home on the Texas coast and are trying to identify a cluster of very old, stinky vines. Heart shaped leaves, alternating on the vine and clusters of tiny green then white flowers at the ends of the stems. They grow tubers ranging from thumb size to 12-14 inch diameter. They are stringy white becoming yellow when cut and exposed to air. They have a pungent garlic stink when cut. The vines break easily when pulled.
