Very pretty....but when you transplant and separate those hostas on the left you will curse the fact that you didn't discover the evils of that stuff sooner! LOL! And watch the hosta....my daughter had some that put out roots from the crown on top of the fabric, under the mulch, as well as the roots directly in the ground. It was a bear to dig and separate them!! And because of so many of the roots being on top of the mulch ( which we didn't know until we were trying to dig them) they got awful, ratty and wilty in late summer when the roots on top of the mulch would dry out.
Now we need to work on you using mulch that hasn't been dyed, so that your beds flow and blend with the woodland behind them. LOL!
Hang here and we will eventually get you whupped into shape!

Beautiful, Melissa! The pattern and flow of the different hosta colors is very appealing--you must have put quite a bit of thought into how to lay out such a big bed!

I'd love to see pictures in a year or two when the plants fill out. Very nice job! You certainly have a beautiful yard!

Looking good. Alot of hard work but wait till it grows up a little...it is going to be wonderful! I have a friend who planted in fabric and when she tries to divide or move it is just a nightmare. I think it is also holding some of her plants back cause they are so enmeshed into the stuff.

What a terrific job Melissa! I love the way it turned out. Doesn't it feel great to accomplish something that comes out looking fantastic like this?? I want to see more pics as they grow.

I want to know about the rocks around the fire pit....are they hyper-tufa? or something else? And the ones way to the right? Just for pretty? Or do they have a use....and if hyper-tufa...did you nake them and what did you use to form them?

Westy, I live in Lakeville/Farmington. I dunno how long it's been since you lived here, but Lakeville and Farmington are pretty much part of the metro now.... the outtermost southern suburbs. I live in a development that is just 6 years old. We're fortunate to be on the edge of the development, so we have these more established trees. At the far left, just peeking into the frame, is a maple, about 40-50 feet tall and has about 9 trunks!

Let me know when you're in the cities and I'd be happy to have you over for a tour!

Melissa: Only a Minnesotan understands what 'up north' means!

I know how much the area has grown - we visited last Fall. We lived two blocks from Lake Nokomis for 20 years and I didn't grow hostas then!!! How stupid was that!

Our dearest friend moved from Burnsville to south of the 'southern' Crosstown Hwy (can't remember the name of the place - but maybe it's Lakeville!) We get up there maybe once a year and there is a nursery I want to see that is apparently never advertised and isn't even in the phone book - I just found out about it from a friend - so if I take the time to do some relaxing stuff, it'd be fun to see your gardens!

I'll save this post and let you know if/when! Thank you for the invite. Actually, it'd be fun to see your place next summer. It'll be absolutely gorgeouser.
