Casual
My next project: 2016: Cut down sickly lilac, dig up the hostas there and have a garden shed installed.
About me: We moved to DeForest, Wisconsin (outside of Madison) in October of 2005 to a home just down the street from our son and his family.
The 1/2 acre property borders a wooded conservancy and is the perfect spot for hostas! In fact, in spring of 2006, I wanted to have a tree trimmed because it had very large, broken branches and I was concerned for the safety of my grandchildren. We contacted Hamm’s Arbor Care and they excitedly informed us that it was a Champion Black Cherry Tree, the largest in the state of Wisconsin.
It was a big job to move 134 different kinds of hosta from our previous home in Menasha. In fact, I moved them twice! Because I knew I’d be moving to the new home in October of 2005, I spent a lot of that summer moving them to my son’s house. In early May of 2006, I dug up approximately 160 hostas at my son’s house and moved them to our current property near the black cherry tree. And being a true "hosta-holic", I added to my collection throughout the summer of 2006.
(March 2007) I have 23 more hosta "on order", bringing my total to 170 different varieties.
Update February 2008 - I currently have 242 different varieties of hosta...the MADNESS goes on! LOL!
Update 2015: 485 varieties Need 15 more to reach 500
