New purchases yesterday

Hey all!

Here are the two new plants I got at the DVHS/TriState joint meeting, picnic and auction. It was hotter than blazes, but the gorgeous shady garden made the afternoon very enjoyable.

Miss Linda Smith - the petioles and scape are such a dark purple, they look almost black.

Candy Dish - been on my wish list for a looooooooong time. This one is OS and I was just thrilled to get it!

NOID

I am going to pot the NOID and see what it may be come next spring. It is a little sad looking right now, but those edges really caught my eye.

Those are beautiful Alexa. I especially like 'Candy Dish'. I'm a sucker for edges. Your noid looks like it's going to be gorgeous too!

Hey, nice purchases! I also really like Candy Dish... I have Marilyn Monroe which is very similar.

For your NOID... this is just a thought, but could it be Carnival??? Check out the HL pics, and my pic below of Carnival from last season.

Thanks! NCnana: I'm right there with you about the bugs! I'm dying to bring in a bunch of my sunflowers for this evening, but am still trying to figure out a way to de-bug them! DD suggested Windex (LOL!) OA, I bought the last they had or I'd go get some more and mail them to you. But, DH hasn't seen them yet. If they look too much like Texas or Texas Longhorn stuff (University of Oklahoma's arch rivals) to him, I may send you these. No offense meant towards any Texas people here . . . it's just a football rivelry thing (LOL!). I once won the grand prize at a big Fall art event we went to locally. It was a handcarved and painted longhorn (cattle, not team) chair, made by a well New Mexico artist, and DH wanted me to let someone else have it! The chair ran almost $800, and I like it. It looks great in our Western guest room, where DH doesn't have to look at it every day ;^D . . . men and their footballs teams! Here's the chair BTW:

You guys are hilarious!! Calliope, I can't believe he didn't notice your hair!! My dh also buys land at the tax sale auctions. There is one piece the state is looking at and he could make a good profit, so I had to eat my words on that purchase, too. No, I didn't break the bank or have to use the mortgage payment to buy the machine. I'm just not used to buying something that expensive without discussing it with him first. (We're both good about doing that.) Well, I still haven't told him yet. I went out with the girls last night so, I only saw him for about an hour and really didn't think the time was right. My older machine is an embroidery machine and the new one is a straight stitch quilting machine, so I really can't swap them out. That is one reason I bought this machine. I can't do any sewing while the older machine is doing it's embroidery (I've pointed this out to him numerous times, LOL!!). I don't have it hidden, but he isn't the most observant person either (it's sitting on the floor with a cover on it and he's walked by it at least a dozen times). But when I set it up, I think it will be obvious because I will have to set up a separate table for it. I think I'll do that this afternoon and see what he says when he gets home. I'd really like to start sewing on it! (((Taking a deep breath))) I'll update you tomorrow (or late this evening?) Thanks for all the laughs, this has been a fun thread.

Glad it went well. If she hasn't already when you go over, move stuff that she needs down to counter level to avoid a lot of reaching up/down. That helped me a lot after my Bilateral Mastectomy. Also, alcohol wipes helped for milking the drain tubes. I bought the small ones that you use for cleaning the skin for a shot. You hold the tube w/ one hand to keep it from pulling the incision and wrap the wipe around the tube and pull down w/ thumb and index finger of the other hand. It hurts like heck if the tube is pulling at the incision!! I also suggest her checking her temp at least twice a day to catch any possible infection early. I ended up in the hospital for almost a week w/ cellulitis and then was on IV abx for a month once I was released.

my first thought was carnival or el capitan ...

if one of those divisions falls off candy dish ... you know where to send it for rescue

I am sooooo jealous. Like you, I've wanted Candy Dish for a long time. I plan to pick it up next year. I know you'll enjoy your new acquisitions. Nice choices, I like the edge on the NOID too. It reminds me of Fair Maiden, only the edge is wider.

How exciting to get those new plants in such a fun setting. I am a sucker for edges, and Candy Dish is also such a pretty color. I think you said the unknown was a small Hosta. If not, how about Liberty (altho my young liberty has hardly any white on the edge). And Miss Linda Smith was just written up as a highly desirable new Hosta. So I'd say you did AOK. :o) Mary

Thanks everyone!

I think Carnival may be correct on the NOID - I have El Capitan and the edges aren't that white. I think it also may be Brim Cup - but hopefully time will tell.

I am really excited about Miss Linda Smith - Art Wrede hybridized this one and he was telling me that he is excited about it. Can't get a better endorsement than that!

Anyway, I am still looking to position them prominently in my garden.....
