Japanese Maple or Weeping Texas Redbud?
Comments (4)What part of Zone 8? If you are in a hot climate the redbud may do fine in quite a bit of shade, although even in regions where these are native surely the crown is not as dense beneath other trees as it is in the open. Otherwise, both kinds of trees are frequently asked about due to problems with them dying back. And neither likes a damp, heavy soil - if that is what you have. It is possible you need to use something else entirely, such as a weeping crabapple - although if there is a lot of shade this is liable to look thin. And if the shade all comes from one side it will probably lean away from it in time....See MoreMy new red weeping japanese maple looks sick
Comments (4)When the leaves first emerge they will look droppy. They do "dangle" when the first bud out. Give it more time to see if it doesn't start to harden off. Don't spray with the fungicide. Good luck....See MoreWeeping Japanese Maples - Chester County

Comments (13)i too would be concerned about pounding in a new stake ... possible root damage ... so i would wiggle the old one out... take it the the store.. or measure diameter ... and buy a new one and slide it back in the old hole ... it need not be re-attached to the main trunk.. you are way beyond that need ... do not try to turn old wood up ... i would probably wait until mid summer.. and select some very pliable new growth .. and point it skyward .... as near to the center of the plant as possible ... this is something that need be done in tree time ... meaning dont think you can take a couple year old part.. and bend it up ... sure it probably can be done ... and you can also snap it right off .... think of it this way.. you arent going to unbend a bow [as in bow and arrow] ... so dont try it here .... i cant quite see in the pix.. but you might also prune a chosen branch near top center ... so it sets some new buds where you want the height .. maples have dormant buds... so this would be an option ... of course.. if you snap one off.. you will already be doing this ... lol ... though they never break where you want them to ... ken...See Moreabciximab
