Summer grafting Japanese Maples

Ozark_Rich

Hi All,

I'm planning on making my first attempt at summer grafting some JMs in a few days --I would've probably started yesterday, but it's decided to rain here, and over much of the country it looks like, Lord knows we need the rain!

Anyways following the advice of Maples of The World, some comments on Gardenweb and a few websites, I think I have a pretty good idea of how to go about it, but would apreciate some last minute advice.

I have four potted seedling green JMs 2-2.5'tall onto which I am planning to graft scions from 'Autumn Moon'. From what I've read they should be completely compatible. I had planned to graft one or two scions from my 'Red Filigree lace', but it's only a couple of years old and seems to have taken the recent 100 degree days a little hard, browning at the tips of it's leaves, and since Maples of The World stresses using only scions with perfect leaves I've decided to wait till next year for them.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Rich
