Maple versus Walnut allelopathic nature

chickencoupe

A little more than a year ago two dominating but graceful black walnut trees passed away. In this area we noticed a thriving 3 year old Maple tree about 4 yards from the walnut stump.

Initially we wanted the black wanut tree to return. They were gracefully shading kids sand box and play area. So, there on the old walnut stump new growth has been permitted.

Will the walnut's allelopathic property inhibit or disturb the maple tree? The maple is more important. We are patient with all trees, but recognize the difference between trash trees from the long-living natives.

The walnuts are sweet and tasty, though.

Thanks!
