I made a pasta dish with end of the season vegetables including beans. It was easy and yummy.

No beans are on the menu for today, but I've started picking my Gold Mine beans, so they'll be eaten soon.

Beans have been on the menu nearly every day this month. After the first light frost, I harvested every bean that was near maturity, for shellies - which was several pails full. I froze a lot of them, but it still took me more than a week to eat the remainder. Made refried beans out of the "Blue Marbutt" shellies, and used that for home-made burritos. Since then, edamame, baked beans from "Sangre de Toro", and some "Hopi Pole" limas that hung on through three frosts (!!!).

Life is good. ;-)

Several frosts so far have pretty much killed most of the beans... but still no hard freeze, more than 3 weeks late (28 degrees expected tonight). The hardier crops are still producing, including the runner beans, much to my surprise. Harvested an enormous amount of runner bean shellies from "Tucomares Chocolate", but unfortunately - even after several methods of preparation - didn't find the taste appealing.

Feel free to report on beans you ate even if you didn't raise them.

For example, I'm addicted to those cheap, frozen bean burritos you pop in the microwave. I ate these once or twice since my last report. It's an easy way to get your daily minimum requirement of beans. I kick up the burritos by dipping them in Sriracha (rooster) hot sauce as I eat. I have made these simple burritos myself, but the ready made ones are so cheap and convenient that it's hard to justify making them myself.

I had boiled edamame in the pods with a touch of salt on them along with my crab legs tonight.
The other day I made beans and greens with the Austrian soup beans I grew this year. The beans looked good, but they are too mild tasting for me.
The Striped Hull Greasy Cutshorts that I grew are all gone with the freeze we had here. No more fresh green beans until next year: (

Were those from a Wisconsin trade, by any chance? I grew them this year also. The vines were kind of strange... more than a half-runner, but less vigorous than most pole beans. The yield was good, and the snaps were OK; but what I liked best was the shellies.

Sorry I disappointed you, Remy. I'm not ordinarily so gauche.

What bean do you recommend for beans and greens? I like cannellini.

I have also enjoyed shellies almost every night for weeks. We like them best steamed in the pods, but the last of those ("Goose"/"Ma Williams" and "Jeminez" are are finally done now after half a dozen 30 F nights.

A lot of the runner bean shellies are in the freezer or drying but we are still harvesting "Cannellini Gigante" shellies.

Yesterday I made "adapazari" squash soup and we had "sugar dots corn" from the garden. It all makes up for the fact that it is fall!

Jim, I get bean and cheese burritos from vending machines from time to time myself....much better than the other junk they have in there. I add a few drops of habanero sauce that I keep in my desk usually.

We are having some of our garden's Kentucky wonder green beans as part of tonight's fideua dinner. I will be having some baby limas with rice for my mid afternoon snack, and just had tofu with my noodle soup at lunch. (I have to eat a lot when I ride my bike to work, it is strenuous) Did not grow the limas or the soy beans for the tofu. I am trying to grow limas and realized no way I am eating the pods (too tough and fibrous!) so I will harvest as either shellies or dried beans, but they are not done yet.

I have to eat beans in some form or another every day, otherwise I do not feel like I have eaten....so the more of them I grow the better life gets.

No kidding. I can positively say that, few days without pulses, my health starts to decline. They really keep a man strong. Best use of freezer space for the long winter. But do chickpeas count? I had them whole and as hummus today.

Lol, now you know you really didn't disappoint me. I have my cheap food weaknesses too. One that comes to mind is box mac and cheese. Most people would never think I would eat that!
I remember(I think) discussing with you in another thread that I preferred Great Northern to Cannellini. I also like a Cranberry type(we always called them Roman) and white bean mix like my father sometimes makes. But really I'll eat it with most any bean : )

Yes, they were the same Wisconsin beans. I was expecting them to grow like poles and they grew shorter so more like half runners I suppose. I did not try them fresh shelled only dried.
I saw the other thread about Jeminez and someone mentioning they had a strong flavor. I received seeds for Jeminez so I believe I will have to give them a go next year.

Probably due to Remy's comment several posts back and the power of suggestion, I had a craving for beans and greens tonight. Luckily, I had the ingredients on hand, a bag of store bought dried beans (cranberry), onion, olive oil, green chiles from my garden and a big bunch of radicchio from my garden for the greens. Delicious.

Now I would have a brownie sundae to top it off except I have no ingredients for that.

I'm on lunch break and eating (even as I write) a extra large helping of green beans (Tennessee Cutshorts) which we picked a couple days ago. We had our first frost on the 23rd (early for here) and a real hard freeze yesterday. Temps went down to 23 F.! So, we picked everything and brought it in. Still have a bit of canning to do!

I had baby limas and cornbread for lunch today. The limas were frozen from the store--cooked them with some onion, olive oil, a little vegetable broth, and a splash of hot sauce. Mmm.
