Started out with odd shaped leaves in 2008, but colors were there - reminds me of an awkward teen all gangly.

Looked pretty good last year, but added enough divisions for this year to really fill out. Wonderful color combination.

Thanks for looking, please share pics of your Jack of Diamonds or Tokudama Flavocircinalis (maybe identical).

I love this one... really could be the same as tok. Flav.... but registered (by Savory, here in MN) in 1985 as a sieboldiana hybrid. It is usually described as a sieboldiana that is smaller than the other plants in its family... or like a small Frances Williams that doesn't burn. But it sure looks like a tokudama to tme!

and I've got Bright Lights and tok. Aureonebulosa... also can't tell a difference. BL is supposed to be a hybrid of tA... but then why is it such a lookalike?

All lovely - but the only one that is different enough to not be one or the other of these is Blue Shadows..and BS is the trickiest of the bunch for heritage... a "selection" from tA...

oh, well... still the best looking family of hostas by my standards....

I had this one, was doing well where I had it planted when I first bought it. Then I had to move it not once but three times and not by choice. The third time it ended up in the trash, it just kept shrinking and shrinking into near nothingness. I may try it again in the future but when I do it'll be in a place where it won't get moved.

Paul, I agree with Irawon and yourself that Nancy is a super spring yellow addition to the garden. Even though it changes to lighter green later on, I still appreciate its appearance. I love the waves and the shine. The leaves have great substance and for those with smaller gardens (like myself) the compact size is a positive. This is a great solid (colour) hosta, that I warmly recommend to other hosta growers. I bought mine last season as a small plant after seeing it in a friendÃ¢ÂÂs garden. IÃ¢ÂÂd seen pictures on line, but it didnÃ¢ÂÂt grab my attention in the same way as it did that day. HereÃ¢ÂÂs a couple of pics that I took moments ago - still a ways to go before it grows to the size of yours, but now it has four eyes. IÃ¢ÂÂve heard it can take a little time to settle, but when it does, it really takes off. I guess that you would have no complaints on that score, judging by the numbers you posted! Don't have JoD, and never realized it had a twin. Here is my tokudama Flavocircinalis with toku Aureonebulosa beside it. I could not believe the difference in size because I got the two on same order from Naylor Boyz in 2012. TokuFlavo begins with blue but becomes this really nice green in my zone.

We usually visit there once a year but won't make it this year. We love to walk around the gardens but we get overwhelmed by the number of plants. Last year we went with a list but none were for sale--it's important to remember that they have another more current list but even that is only updated each May. If you want a specific plant it's important to call ahead and check availability. Great place to see what hostas actually look like. We've climbed up and down the hillsides so be prepared for more than a garden stroll. It's acres of plants.

That is looking lovely Paul! I lost my Jack of Diamonds this year ( to inadequate winter protection), but really I had no business buying it in the first place if it's so identical to Tokudama F....I already have two of those and should really only have one. But the color combo is my absolute favorite...some people like green centers with blue margins, but I like the reverse. Add the corrugation, the slug resistance, and you have a perfect plant, in my books.

Here is my larger Tokudama F...measured it at 46" across the other day so it is really making a statement this year. It also started out as awkward teenager, btw!

idiothe, I have heard that they are slow, but I feel like I have others in my garden that are of the same age and are less impressive- like Big Daddy and Touch of Class, for example. Aside from a couple years of teen angst, Tok F has grown pretty well- noticeably better every year. My smaller one is planted in a spin out bag, but has always been smaller than this one. I will try to get a pic tomorrow. I agree with you- the best looking hosta family in my books...especially if you have slugs!

Heatwave is also in the family, right? That one is coming on strong this year for me too. Good things are worth the wait, I guess.

Coll, your photo, your garden, your highlighted hosta.....wow, breath-taking. Hooooo, that is a beautiful hosta.

I have the Tokudama brothers, but I like Flavo better than Aureo for the leaf and for the speed of growth. I thought Aureo was a no-show this spring, and Flavo was going strong.

I have Heat Wave, it is small, in its first year here. We'll see how well it performs in a container.

Thanks for the photos! I put Jack of Diamonds in last year and it looks like the proverbial piece of carp. I"m glad to see there are better things in the future.

Here is a pic of the smaller of my Tok F's. Both bought in 2006, but this one has always been smaller than the other. Heatwave is behind it on the right.

coll, love the Heat Wave as well....mine got rescued a couple of years back and now is doing well...gonna show it pics of yours so that it knows what to do for next year.

Paul, my Heatwave made a big jump this year, gaining corrugation and larger leaves. Yours will get there next year, I am betting. It is really a pretty one.

LOL Madplanter, I thought the same about my Jack of Diamonds in it's second year, I didn't even take a picture of it.

It's starting to look good this year, and most of all, it's slug-resistant. Most of the other hostas in this bed are riddled with holes.

This is the Tokudama Aureo. that I thought would fail to show. It is slower than the other hosta around it, but finally has some serious growth

My Tokudama Flavocircinalis is doing fine this year. I got it last year rather late. Growth rate rather quicker than expected. Very sturdy plant.

I won't be getting Jack of Diamonds if it is the same.
