Acer Shirasawanum 'Sensu' Repot
Comments (24)I probably should have removed some of the buds earlier in the process. You may have even meant that when we were talking about reducing the limbs, but I didn't grasp exactly how the buds would sprout and grow. This little guy is quite brushy now and will need additional trimming. I can also see by the way it buds/back buds that I will constantly be pruning to achieve the shape I want. Here's a full tree pic. Thanks for following along with me. Blake...See MoreAcer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon'
Comments (9)Kent, What is the burgundy leaf maple next to the autumn moon in the first picture? Is it a "TSUKUSHIGATA"? how old is this tree you have? Does it hold its color well? I love the color combination with the autumn moon. thanks, xman...See MoreAcer shirasawanum aureum
Comments (3)You may want to check out this associated thread. Even in our mild climate, the light colored and rather delicate foliage of the fullmoon maples is subject to sun scorch. I'd site in considerable shade in soil that is organically rich, moisture retentive and very well draining. FWIW, the Golden Fullmoon will contribute wonderful chartreuse-gold coloring in even a very shady location. Here is a link that might be useful: thread...See MoreAcer shirasawanum 'Aureum'
Comments (8)xman, I think that will be fine. Up until just a week ago, I had mine in full sun and it held up ok. I can do this in the spring and fall, but when the temps get up over 90 I will start to see some leaf burn and scorching if the tree gets direct exposure after about 1pm. So now I have in in its lagre ceramic pot under a mature ash tree with just some limited sun in the middle of the day, maybe 11-1pm. It will be fine. I don't know that the following advice is worth much, but when I have had my Aureums in full shade they don't do as well. I acutally think it is because the soil mediums don't dry out as fast. But in anycase, I have used partial expsure in mid-day and last year I put the tree in North to NW expsure where it got sun, lower on the horizon, late in the day. This worked very well. If you can put a little more air in your mix for this tree with more fir bark or perlite, I think it will benifit. MJH...See Morepicea
