Stunted, deformed leaves on Guardian Angel

My first-year Guardian Angel was a single eyed plant last year with great leaves about 8 or 9 inches long. This year, a large single eye emerged, but the leaves are extraordinarily thick and very small. The veins are very close together and leaves are only about 4 inches long. Could this be cold damage or chemical exposure? So far, there is no variegation. I've potted the plant and put it in my intensive care area. Has anyone experienced this? Will the second flush exhibit more normal leaves? Should I wait for next year or replace the plant now?
