Fully mature beans can be dried and used as seed. Germination will usually be a bit less than if they were allowed to fully mature on the vines. A simple way to tell is to see how much they shrivel when dried. The more they shrivel, the less viable they will be as seed. If it is a commonly available variety with seed easily purchased, then my suggestion is to cook them as green shellies. This is far and away the best way to eat beans in my opinion. Shell the beans, cook them on the stove top in water for about 30 minutes at a low boil with a lid on, season to taste, and serve.

I got it----I`ll put it in a spinout bag! That way it`s in soil, in the ground and can be easily moved. (Yup, I still have some spinout bags.) I have a root infested garden bed I could put the hosta in for a year or so. But if I put it in a bag in that same area, then the hosta will get a chance to survive and the roots won`t invade that soon. Too bad about your GE djacobz. That`s disappointing. Seems like crown rot. Some of my hostas have had that too. The roots may even look good, but then they just fall off. Then I throw it in the garbage. That can happen to hostas in pots. Also can happen to hostas in the ground where the soil isn`t well draining and there is a lot of rain. I like to keep count of the eyes of my hosta (unless they are too large). The count of the eyes tells me a lot. Numbers don`t lie. Off to find a spinout bag.
