What do you do when your mail order starter roses arrive?
Comments (11)Nope, you guys missed a VERY important step. The very first thing you do with new mail order bands after taking them out of the shipping box and taking off any shipping paraphenalia is to fill a garbage can to the point where the water will completely cover the whole plant and to submerge it for 30 minutes to an hour. The point here is to kill any critters that came with your plants, especially of the spider mite variety. It also rehydrates everything that dried out during shipping. Then I keep them in the band pots in the shade for a couple of days and then, when I have time, I pot them up to one gallon pots. No fertilizer in the one gallon pots until you see they are established and growing well....See Moreauction order arrived today!!!

Comments (17)Oh wow chad I have that one on order. I will go see what I can find on it. I didn't know that it was pbf also. Do you have it? Can you expound on "extremely variable"? I found a list somewhere (?) of variegated iris that I hadn't heard of before and wrote them down. I have the oddest hang up with wanting to get one of every one there is (bearded). lol Have you heard of 'Pink Marble'? I have been trying to find that one for a year now - to no avail. I found a seller that has it but they said it hadn't multiplied enough to sell any of it and they probably wouldn't sell it for at least another 3-4 years. :(...See MoreSo when will YOUR mail orders arrive???
Comments (14)I found out that one of the items I ordered from Big Dipper, a couple of Gaillardia 'Oranges and Lemons' will not be included in my shipment. Their policy is if anything is not ready when your order is scheduled for shipment, they delete it from your order and just don't charge you for that item. They won't ship it later, or hold the rest of the order. Of course, this was the main thing I placed the order for, so I was disappointed. I went to the local garden center to see if they were carrying it this year. They weren't, but of course I had to pick up a few things anyway, just to console myself, LOL! I've started planting out some of my winter sown things. They've been outside from the beginning, so I think they will be able to handle a frost or two. I also planted out the things from the local garden center, since those were already hardened off. I'll probably harden the mail order stuff off for a few days, then plant them. It's all perennials that are harder for this zone, so they should be fine....See MoreChemocurl zn5b/6a Indiana
