Yay my Napa Country Iris Garden order arrived today! I ordered this I believe in March (if I remember right) and

forgot just how many were on my gotta have that list. I ordered 18 and received 2 bonus 1 is a 2012 intro. To satisfy the curious I ordered (& received all with no subs, woohoo)

I love that pbf. I have half a dozen with it, and the foliage is very pretty in the garden.

Don't be heartbroken if Decadence is fussy. It's fussy for a lot of people.

The luminatas are weak growers, so give them time.

I'm going to look up your bonus irises!

Love the purpulicious (is that a word?) foliage! And what beautiful fat and vigorous fans with extensive root systems they all have! Your photos are a great endorsement for the folks at Napa and the quality of what they're selling.
I also like that they have stapled a tag to one of the inner leaves of each fan. I've received shipments with the name of the iris written in magic marker on one of the outer leaves--the first ones to wither away after planting. Leaving me with a NOID, at least until they flower. Which is a reminder to me to get out my copper plant tags and label what I already have!

OK, I didn't upload the pics I took to my photobucket account yet, so I'm being lazy and offering any of you on Facebook the opportunity to see them in my "NJ Garden" album. My Heirloom Roses order came two weeks ago, and that pic is the 37th in the album, followed by a shot of 'Souvenir de Victor Landeau' as it's leafing out this year (I got it as a band in April 2012), some up-close shots of the "Reine des Violettes" a-la Heirloom Roses, and a snapshot of the whole order potted up and individual shots of each. Then there's an "after" pic of one of the future Gallica beds, after I removed dead and "in the way" growth of the arborvitae, and finally the Vintage Gardens and Rogue Valley Roses order I received on Thursday. I'm overly meticulous with potting them up, so I got through half in four hours on Thursday, working until it got too dark to see. Then this morning (Friday) I finished the other half in another four hours, just in time to get cleaned up and ready for work. If I posted them all on here, I think I'd end up freezing someone's computer. One thing I have to say -- I notice that the medium Vintage uses for their bands is very "rocky" and seems both overly heavy for shipping weight, and prone to drying out en route. Some of their bands were wilting when I took them out, but perked back up after getting a long, slow drink. Rogue uses more of a peat-based medium, which seemed both lighter in weight and able to retain more moisture. Of all of the RVR bands, only 'Golden Buddha' seemed a bit wilty, but it also perked back up soon after being repotted and watered. My potting mix this time was equal parts peat moss, Bovung composted cow manure, and shredded hardwood mulch. I like how this mix felt, a nice mix of light and fluffy with enough water-holding ability and a good mix of slow-release organic nutrients for growth. I lined the bottom of each pot with newspaper to keep the mix from coming out of the holes but still allow water to drain out. I sprinkled Jobe's Organic Knock Out Rose food in layers as I added potting mix, using 1 cup for the 2-gallon pots and 1/2 cup for the 1-gallons. I think I prefer the 2-gallon pots, but did use the 1-gallons for the bands that were either much smaller, or for roses which themselves don't grow that big, and will be planted in the ground after I place the larger roses. I'll pot up the 1-gallons into 2-gallons later in the season. I'll keep updating that album as I go along. :-) ~Christopher Here is a link that might be useful: NJ Garden Pics

Hi Citrusnut, 2 weeks huh? That sounds FAMILIAR but one thing you have to know is that they are very busy. They really focus on there whole sale business. I'm glad that there so successfull but they really need to either hire someone else to help them with there non whole sale orders or he needs to step it up. The problem is Jungle Jacks is like a mom and pop shop. IT's John, his wife, and one other person. When I called the 1st time, the wife told me that John would be back from Thailand in a few days, and it would be better for me to have him pack my order instead of her. The only thing that really bothered me was that it seemed like every time John and I spoke on the phone or I emailed him, his story channged. For example, he had told me that he had sent my order out and then a few days later he tells me that my order had just gone out. I wished that he could have told me when it was leaving and stuck to that date. There's nothing more dissapointing then expecting a delivery and not getting your package! IF I were you, I would keep calling him every few days to make sure your order went out. Did I also mention that my order total had come to $167.00 and then he billed my debit card for $200.00!! I couldn't believ it and I had to wait about a week for him to send me the payment to reimburse me! That probobly was what made me the most upset. At my last count, I have 54 plumerias now and probobly 12 seedlings. Yeah I know that sounds crazy right! Most of which are still small enough so I don't have a problem yet in the winter time. MY Thai Christina and Jenny are the largest of my plumeria trees right now. On top of that I have my tropical fruit trees, 2 mango trees a couple citrus trees, jackfruit, cherimoya, wax jambu...I probobly have around 50 other tropicals that are not plumeria. I keep most of my tropicals under my 600 watt HPS light. I also have a good sized basement that stays warm enough for me to keep my plumerias there until spring. Hello Friends, Andrew - I have ordered Tons of Stuff from them and have been so happy each time. I got a 5'-6' Foot Sweetheart Lychee, 5'-6' Foot Purple Caimito, 4'-5' Foot Jaboticaba, a 5' foot "San Pablo" Custard Apple, and a Awesome Pickering Mango tree that is fruiting right now. That is the stuff I bought. As for te Stuff I got for free. I got a Jamaican Strawberry tree which is now almost 7' feet, Barbados Cherry, A Guava, a 6' foot Grumichama Cherry, and a Sensitive Plant, and a couple of others. He really values his customers and wrote the book on customer service. Bo - Yes, I definietly believe in them and the proof is in the pudding. He really delivers and the product speaks for itself. He will do whatever to make you happy. Ask for some pictures so you will get exactly what you want and expect, and so there won't be any problems. Mickey is very happy to do so. Second the warning on your luminata's - have both of those and they need special care.

Decadence (and most other Blyth's) has been a strong grower here, my climate is very similar to Barry's

Upper Hand has got to be my latest blooming Iris ever.

Chad, ADOREE and DRADY were on my short list, but I got there too late.

Aquawise, you will have to report back on Gracious Curves. I am trying to grow Ringo, but it is a weak grower, and I wonder if Gracious Curves is not a good replacement. Stan Coates! Last night I was wondering just how blue that iris is. I can't wait to see your photos of it.

Sorry for the delay in responding I have been crazy busy in the garden as we are having such nice overcast days. My husband just said it has been years since we had a rainy July, and true it has been.

Renee - Hum... I didn't know this about the luminatas. Thanks for the heads up and the encouragement. I will give them time and hope they do well here. 6 cultivars with PBF wow what are they? I wonder if a hybridizer has ever tried crossing the variegated with the PBF? How awesome would a tri-colored iris be!

Oh so glad you started that other post on "what doesn't grow well for you" I have 2 for sure to put on the list.

Kay - Sure purpulicious can be a word if you want it to be! Besides I like the sound of it. lol

Chad - Thanks for listing what you bought. It is interesting to see others taste in plants. Mambo Italiano & Montmartre are so awesome. I was going to add those along with another 10 or so others to my order but I had so many ordered from every where that I am really ridiculously overwhelmed. (Why oh why do I do this to myself! Just say no Rena'!) lol Just planted Birthday Girl she's so ruffly - can't wait to see it in person.

Aquawise - Aardvark Lark is liked by most of us, Renee ordered it too I believe. And I love Halo Everybody also. And in actuality I love most of Napa's collection. They have great taste! And since we ordered from them I guess that means so do we! lol It is fun to look up everyone's orders! Thanks for sharing your list!

Napa also knows how to market- they have good, large photos and a website that is easy to use. I can't see the irises on MidAmerica's new site- and it takes three clicks to get a good sized photo.

The PBF plants I grow are No Count Blues, Rose Teall, Walking On Air, and a few others that I cannot recall offhand.

This was my first time ordering from them. I must say that I was more than pleased. The Postal service sucked!! They mailed the box on Monday and it took till Friday to get here. It sat in the California sorting facilaty for 3 days.
I will order from them again. very pleased with there plants and service.

A PBF varigated iris is Canadian Streaker from Chapman. It's extremely variable.

Oh wow chad I have that one on order. I will go see what I can find on it. I didn't know that it was pbf also. Do you have it? Can you expound on "extremely variable"? I found a list somewhere (?) of variegated iris that I hadn't heard of before and wrote them down. I have the oddest hang up with wanting to get one of every one there is (bearded). lol Have you heard of 'Pink Marble'? I have been trying to find that one for a year now - to no avail. I found a seller that has it but they said it hadn't multiplied enough to sell any of it and they probably wouldn't sell it for at least another 3-4 years. :(

There is a list of pbf and purple rhizome iris at the link below. I don't know anything about this site to know if it is a good one or not, but I was looking up things about pbf since I didn't know anything about it and found this.

If you like the PBF a fun fact is that some set purple seed pods, for example Mind Reader.

aseedisapromise - Wow, my mind is boggled at how many pbf iris there are on that list. and the author said that it is "in no way complete!" Awesome I can't wait to see which ones I might have on order from the list. THANK YOU!
