Think you'll see planting these puppies 3 feet apart is tight.

I certainly got a third year leap!

Gardening has gone by the wayside this year for all the tramping around my house (roof and siding) and these hydrangeas have weathered some neglect, bigtime.

All I can say is wow.

I'm thinking of tanking the other bushes coz I'm restoring the front porch to original elaborate condition. You can't see my rose arbors on either side of the porch.

Hard to think of removing gnarly 50 year old bushes...I can relate! lol I'm in a "less is more" mood these days.

Your hydrangeas and home are beautiful. I wish my ES would bloom blue. I have 1 in the ground, and its pink. I also have 2 in pots and I'm hoping that they will bloom blue. I'll have to wait and see.

Mine reflexes its petals back at the edges soon after opening, as seen in the pics pat_bamaz7 previously posted in this thread back in September. There are several related "musk roses" beyond 'R. moschata' that it could be, in addition to hybrids thereof. The yellow centers to which you refer are actually the stamens and anthers, rather than a true yellow center on the petals. How separate they appear will change with respect to the angle of the picture. Before dismissing 'R. brunonii' completely as a possibility, look also at 'La Mortola', which is a seedling of it. This pic especially resembles yours. Ignore the yellower shade to the leaves on your plant. If it came from Palatine, it's on Multiflora rootstock, and that is prone to chlorosis in alkaline and/or iron-deficient soil -- as well as while getting established. Instead look at the shape and size of the leaflets. They do look rather similar, don't they? :-) ~Christopher

I recognize a lot of the names here! I do not use Facebook at all and have really missed all the activity the forums here use to have. Shades, I feel so modern! We got our first computer in 1998; while my young nephew was living with us. I discovered the Kitchen Table, and various forums, right after that! I don't know if it counts as "junk," but Wes made this trellis obelisk for my anniversary gift last year. It's nearly 6' tall. I found the directions on line. This was taken in early Spring 2016. I have two clematis vines planted under it, but it's far too early to know if they will come up this Spring. We want to add "something" to the top. There's a man nearby who makes metal cut-out sculptures/silhouettes. I thought of using our monogram in a verticle orientation with a smaller C on top; a large S in the center, and a smaller W on the bottom. Or a small weather vane? Or a silhouette of my dog? I thought about a gazing ball, but the Purple Martin colony is about 25' away and I'm afraid the sparkly reflection might bother them. Or...any suggestions.

@Julie Zygmontowicz I have already painted the walls Glass Slipper and the cabinets Santorini Blue. Both Benjamin Moore colors. The mirror was replaced with a circular mirror that has a polished brass edge. If you scroll up to some earlier pictures, you will see what it looks like. I am having a heck of a time finding a light that is the same finish as the mirror so thinking I might stick with what I have and try to work some chrome/nickel in via the knobs or other. Thoughts?

I think I'm going to try and find some shallow cut glass vintage/antique dishes to display my roses in. I like their sparkle. To experiment with different types of glass I took the following photos today. I don't actually have any antique cut glass bowls. This one is a modern clean cut dish. Center is Iceberg. Starting at 1:00 and going clock wise, Winnipeg Parks, Iceberg, Livin Easy, Candy Land, Winnipeg Parks, Fred Loads. This is also a modern piece but mimics what I am looking for. Left is Calico Gal, top is Iceberg, right is Amiga Mia. Bottom is Candy Land. This gravy boat has some variations in the glass which are nice. Flower is Neil Diamond - very fragrant. This is just a plain glass bowl. I kind of like the weird fisheye effect of the photo but in person it is just a dish. Top Candy Land, bottom Fred Loads. They all look good with flowers in them but the ones with more character look better when sitting on the shelf empty. I'm going to keep my eye out for vintage/antique cut glass bowls.

Ah, there are the pics. Figured it out. You can see the dramatic difference in size a little better now. True to first year it sleeps, second year it creeps, third year it leaps. Thanks for the compliments.

I agree they look healthy and happy, but in years past they were watered every morning. I think I've watered them maybe 5 times this summer because workmen trampled on and broke my watering system. They're made of stern stuff! I don't think I put the usual 10-10-10 on them in the spring either.

I pruned them before I took the pictures. They're shooting up new buds that are now above my head. I never expected them to grow to such a height. I may prune much more aggressively in the future.

I think my soil is naturally acidic so I didn't do anything to get the blue color. And naturally, I wish I had some pink hydrangeas. ha.

I was born in MA and couldn't grow Macro H's there either! Yours are gorgeous! And is your house with the turret.

I'm wondering what sun exposure they are getting as I suspect that is key. Thinking of moving my one ES for the third time. Please email me.
