The change has been noticeable. I miss the old days too and I remember your name. The garden junk forum was a huge influence on my garden style and I always loved coming and reading. It also lead me to the local garden forum which has been a great place and community for me as well. I'll keep checking on Garden Junk and hope to post more this Summer. Don't give up completely!

I remember my husband I meeting you and Bill in Avon and chatting over lunch, then going to Goodwill. I don't do much gardening or junking either at the age of 75. I have lots of ideas but not much get up and go to get them done. It's a shame what has happened to the Garden Junk forum. It was such a great place to visit and get ideas.

Can this forum be revived?

I went to a flea market last week and got many old things to get welded up for out in the garden and have lots of stuff out there already. Got an "armillary" made with old iron wagon wheel rims perched on an old milk can, more than a few wheelbarrows that are planted and an old steel wheel arbor for roses and morning glories to cover. I got an old fire hydrant last weekend and several other things.

Please revive, revive! Post your pics, gardenerlorisc_ia! I want to see.

I just cannot make the jump to Pinterest. Can't stand the mainstream label!!

I logged on to say thanks..today I present an interest/talent to high schoolers and my choice was "garden art" that I have created. Most inspired here..and most share here over the years. I miss this place to rest at the beginning of a day in the garden. I too wish it was still a vibrant sharing of ideas and projects.

I love Pinterest for ideas. But the difference on pinterest is there is no "interactive" communication. You don't post and converse about items or ideas. It's just a place to look at pictures like a photo album.

I'm ashamed to say I usually only frequent the Oklahoma Gardening and Daylilies Forum. This used to be my favorite forum!

I seem to devote all my extra time to gardening, instead of creating anything. My last two artistic efforts were to paint a large rooster on the side of my chicken house and I copied a "wisteria bowling ball" someone here had made. Which the crows quickly picked apart :(

NonaCook, this may be late, but you were always one whose posts I tried not to miss. I hope you find many happy memories to comfort you. Anniversaries like yours are sure tough, even when you miss your loved one every day.

I miss the old forum too! I use pinterest to save ideas for myself, but can't get too wrapped up in it. I just happened to pop in after years of being MIA . I still have the wonderful "junk" a/k/a/ as" treasures" we used to exchange ! Everything here looks so different - to the point of looking drab ! It's a shame that forums are slowing down - I learned sooo much from everyone ! I guess social media has taken over , I'm too stubborn to leave my beloved forums ! I DO remember so many names from the past !!

I too miss the old forum, I lurk every once in awhile but haven't posted in quite some time. I am not impressed w/pininterest myself. I don't need a site of pictures. I learned to make plate flowers and totems and so much more here. Houzz is dreadful, so hard to find anything and the ads are very annoying. I miss Spike!

Nona Cook! You can see how seldom I return. I remember you very well. You had a rowboat converted to a planter. We've all aged and our Gardens have changed. My Bottle Tree still stands as does my Stick House, both somewhat overgrown. Discarding is my current activity since I realized that if I do not want to sort and throw away my 'treasures' my family certainly will not. I use Pinterest as a tool to remember what it is I might want to do in the way of projects, agreeing that it is void of any interaction.

there are tons of great ideas in pinterest....but I miss the friendships with others that enjoy . I recently saw something that two of my neighbors have.....it is a bicycle rim (i think a small one) with wires woven in the rim. there are (I think) painted bottle caps attached to the wires. One of the neighbors has her bottle caps painted white the other neighbor has a mix of pinks white and purples . the wires are all curved around. all of that is on a pole and it is stuck in the ground. They look like flowers and are very pretty. I would like to find instructions to make them. I know my daughters would love them for Christmas. Anyone know what im talking about and and where I might know where I might find the how toos?

I use to come here a lot back in the days of Spike. I could get great ideas and it was entertaining. I was working and my work had me out of town so much I could not do the projects. Now that I have the time nobody is around.

It is easy to post pics from your computer and other photo places on that forum too. One of the reasons I am not here much is they made it to hard to post pics from if it is not on your computer you cannot post the pic.

I post pix from PhotoBucket as well as my computer. Use the "Direct" link in PB and paste it in the file name when you hit the photo icon.

It gives a link you can post pics to your post on the forum I am using above in my post. It does not help if you can only post actual photos unless they are on your computer. The hosta forum use to be active they seem to have also went down. People love to post progression and those are not usually on your computer.

I keep checking in to see if there is anything new . I miss some of the fun junk pictures . I have not had a chance to do any garden work at all since the house flooded . Hopefully in the spring I will be able to get back to it .

I like Craftster.org, it includes pictures and discussion. The Home Sweet Home forum includes sections on "Exterior Decorating".

"Community" in the yellow band at the top of the page shows different forums on the site.

I see there are many others like me who come back here in hopes of a revival. Pinterest is an endless procession of dead links and waste of time for the most part.

There seem to be fads in web forums. 20 years ago, there was a lively glass lampwork site I used to frequent. 5 years later, it was dead quiet, and another site had all the traffic. Another few years, another site was the hotspot. Apparently they've all moved to FaceBook now, and I'm left out here alone... : )

Similar things have happened on sites I frequented about orchids, crafting, dollhouses, and other topics. Oh, maybe it's ME!

Hi Everyone! I was mjowest- I remember most of you! You got me started on totems. I remember almost crying- there ARE people like me when I found you! going to add this to my list of weekly visits. Good to be among friends.

I was actually looking up a recipe via Google, and a 'Garden Web' post popped up. Now I haven't been to 'Garden Junk' for years, but upon perusing, whose name should I come across? Nonacook's! I remember you Nona from my days on the board, it's Crafty Canuck, wonder if you remember me? I used to make the stepping stones from character cake pans. Not a lot of other names I recognize, but sure is good to see yours Nona!

I am also an old timer to Garden Junk. One of the first forums when I got a computer in 2000. Yah 3 days before Y2K Hahaha I even unplugged it for that. That never happened. Anyway I would love to see this forum come back to life. I may be older but I still love my garden junk. Going to get on the band wagon here and thank some to see if I can bring them back.

Nona I remember you and your post of last year was on my husbands birthday. He also passed away so I am now junking it all alone. :'(

Just today and I am far from done I moved my out door kitty kennel over about 8 foot and now I will have a whole new area to junk up. I still have some more clamping to get done to put the 10 by 6 foot cyclone fence panels back together and get the roof back on which also doubles as my clothesline. I will see if I can get a junky photo before dark if I get that far. I sure hope so or I am going to have some mighty ticked off kitties tonight.

Great story about Y2K, Shades!

LOL popmama, Was a long time ago but I just remembered getting my computer just before and every one was so freaked out. My neighbor and I walked the streets of town at midnight with sparklers and had a blast. Nothing happened. Such a let down for all the hype over it all.

I managed to get the kitty kennel to move in stage for things and the kitties went out there to inspect. They sure are curious little ones. No pictures. I was so hungry all I could think of was my stomach and now I do not think I can even get back up for awhile. Long day. I know the kitty kennel is not garden junk although my husband called it pretty junky. I will see if I can doll it up and junk it up a little bit. Looking so bare on all new ground. I need to plant a bush for them and me. I am far from done. I stayed in pretty good shape for an old timer with all the snow this winter but I bet tomorrow I will be feeling this adventure.

I think I remember your snail The_Kat. I was just starting mosaics back then and loved the colors and how you managed the curves. then I remember some got mad because GJ was turning into too much mosaics. Mosaics were so made for doing on garden junk. The two go hand and hand.

Shades, I feel so modern! We got our first computer in 1998; while my young nephew was living with us. I discovered the Kitchen Table, and various forums, right after that!

I don't know if it counts as "junk," but Wes made this trellis obelisk for my anniversary gift last year. It's nearly 6' tall. I found the directions on line.

This was taken in early Spring 2016. I have two clematis vines planted under it, but it's far too early to know if they will come up this Spring.

We want to add "something" to the top. There's a man nearby who makes metal cut-out sculptures/silhouettes. I thought of using our monogram in a verticle orientation with a smaller C on top; a large S in the center, and a smaller W on the bottom.

Or a small weather vane?

Or a silhouette of my dog?

I thought about a gazing ball, but the Purple Martin colony is about 25' away and I'm afraid the sparkly reflection might bother them.

Or...any suggestions.

Shades_of_idaho, I agree about mosaicking especially with old broken china and pottery. My snail was a plain garden piece I got from JoAnn's or some such place for a couple of bucks. You could technically say I "repurposed" it for the garden, which to me qualifies as garden junk.

caroline94535, I think a birdhouse would be great on top or I've seen obelisks with fancy finials on top like big wooden balls or what they call a "bishop" finial that kind of looks like a bishop's hat. Here is one with an acorn shaped finial on top (I love the color too).
