Blue Angel or Blue Mammoth?

I want a large to very large blue hosta for my garden. Any pros or cons of one versus the other. I live in the South, and it will be receiving morning sun until about 11:00. Both were listed on the "Sun Tolerant Hosta" list. Is one a more vigorous grower? Thanks for any info!

No doubt about it,neither one is a fast grower in my garden,although Blue Angel is faster;in my opinion. Phil

I have Komodo Dragon close to Sagae. They are an awesome combo. Both are mature size. I expect Liberty, Abiqua Drinking Gourd and Yellow River would be great too. They all make awesome clumps. IMO, the others are great but not awesome.

I'm going to take a leap and guess feet, ken ;o) and suggest what pagrdnr has suggested is a good idea and may I, also, suggest some yellows in front--like 'August Moon', (affordable yellows)or even better, 'Jimmy Crack Corn', which has ruffled edges! Filling in with some burgundy Heuchera would be a nice touch, with maybe some 'Ghost Ferns' here and there! Oops, I've just described the combos I like in my own gardens!!! Well, *I* like it! :o)

I just came from my daughter's house where a "Blue Angel" is growing in at least six hours sun on the south side of her house. It must be at least 4' across, and it's fantastic. I personally think it is the more graceful and beautiful of the two and would get my vote.

I have them both. Blue Angel grows faster, but I think Blue Mammoth is lovelier. It's bigger, more rugose, and the leaves are rounder. I think Mammoth is more of a powder blue while Blue Angel is more of a blue green, at least in my garden. Those are all traits I like very much. But they are both beautiful and either will make you happy, I'm sure.

They are both fantastic hostas. My Blue Angel clumps are the largest hosta in my garden, and they seem to grow in leaps and bounds. Blue Mammoth is lovely too, doesn't grow quite as fast, but I wouldn't classify it as a slow grower.

I think you'd be happy with either one.

you can do a lot better than either of them ....

look into millennium ...

your sun is NOT a problem.. period...

with the waxy blues.. the only concern is the hot sun.. say 2 to 6 pm ... might melt the wax...
