komodo dragon vs. ?

I have spot for two hostas on both sides of the walking path/ bridge. Which hosta would look good to oppose Komodo Dragon? It has to be large to offset Komodo but does not have to be as big since the distance from the path would not be equal. Still I would like this other hosta to hold its own against dramatic effect of KD. Out of large hostas I have Big Daddy, Blue Angel, Blue Mammoth, Dawn's Early light, Missisipi Delta, Niagara Falls, Silk Kimono, Holy Mole, Guacamole, Sagae, Yellow River, Green Fried Tomatoes, Striptease, Harriet Ward, Pinapple Upside Down, Abigua Drinking Gourd, American Halo, Journey's End, Bill Brincka, Manhattan.

Or any others I should look for?

I would put something gold...Dawn's Early Light would be nice. Montana AM would also be striking.

mountainy man, just make sure there is plenty of room. Like I said, this is a 5 year old plant, but when I got it in the mail, it was in a 4" pot. I never expected it to get this big. But I did us a lot of compost on in and also a handful of 10-10-10 fertilizer in the spring. I also water the heck out of it! Enjoy this plant. It has given me much pleasure here in my Zone 6 garden in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. How I wish I could see the beautiful gardens of Ireland!

Nice catch. Did you find them locally? To visit a hosta nursery, I'd have to drive about 250 miles north to Birmingham. Unless there is one hiding in plain sight somewhere else. Your Komodo Dragon is a lot bigger than the one I received this spring, but I don't think it will stay small very long. It's already adding new leaves. Mail order is the way I've gone except for one batch I picked up in person at Bob Seawright's nursery in Carlisle MA in Sept 2011. Maybe got 10 from him at close of the season for half off. The rest of mine are all mail order. For the most part, I have not been disappointed in the health and the looks of the plants. Well, I'm cooled off now, time to head back outdoors to the garden projects.

how big is small ..??? if it is 4 inches.. i would pot it into a quart .. and tip it out into my hand once a month.. and as the roots hit the side.. and grew down.. when the roots hit the bottom.. i would up pot to a gallon ... and then a 2 gallon .. next year?? and then.. probably into a whiskey barrel ... the pots can be sunk in the whiskey barrel in the mean time ... in MI.. winter storage will be your biggest issue on survival.. ken, in adrian MI

I love Liberty! Not sure how fast it grows though. I saw a mature clump that was VERY impressive and I could see it across the depth of the yard.

Jimmy Crack Corn or better yet, Sea Gulf Stream.

Stained Glass would also offer a fantastic contrast to the dark pointed rippled leaf of KD, since it's round, smooth, shiny & bright brassy gold.

I have Komodo Dragon close to Sagae. They are an awesome combo. Both are mature size. I expect Liberty, Abiqua Drinking Gourd and Yellow River would be great too. They all make awesome clumps. IMO, the others are great but not awesome.
