Help with terrarium wick hydroponics

Hello,

I am setting up a fire belly toad terrarium for my daughter and want to run my plans by the experts.

Here is my planned setup.

I will have a 20g long aquarium. The entire tank will have about 3 in of water. I will have a large island in the center.

The island will be a block of slate. I chose this because it is inert and non porous. I will carve out a 3 in cavity in the center to place my growing substrate.

To water the island I plan on using wick hydrponics. I am going to use nylon rope hung over the back side of the slate rocks. The rope will be laid under 2 in of substrate. So 2/3 of the way down.

I plan on using sporagium moss and bark mixed together for the substrate. The toads can not live with anything granular, this is why I chose this mixture.

Does my plan appear to be sound? Will the lack of drainage be an issue? Is the wick method my best bet? I am worried about overwatering with other methods, but am open to ideas. Any other suggestions?
