Does anybody else just cover their hydrangeas with sheets?

...in the spring when warm days are followed by a frost?

I've been doing that the last couple of years and have had great success (knock wood) with having blooming hydrangeas in my area.

I'm at 2000 feet and we really get colder than zone 6 here, I believe.

Anyway, none of my hydrangeas bloomed until I started doing this....it may be superstitious behavior so I wanted to know if anyone else does this.

I started doing it when I noticed one time going into town (we're in the middle of 500 acres of forest and 10 miles from a town) that there were sheets over bushes in some people's yards and later that summer I discovered that those bushes were beautiful blooming hydrangeas....my hydrangeas were flowerless at the time every year.

I watch the weather reports very carefully in the spring after I notice my hydrangeas have started growing green "buds" of leaves at their tips and if there is going to be a frost, I throw the sheets over them and leave them on until it warms to a reasonable temperature. Sometimes I have to leave them on several days in a row, but mostly I just have to put the sheets on at night.
