sweet 100 cherry tomatoe plant issues...

Setup:
old phototron my grandmother gave me LOL...

2.5 gallon rez.

Bigmamba 8x8x8 rockwool cube. soaked first in ph 5.5 water for 24hrs before using in system. is sitting 2 inches above nutes to allow for drainage
.
1 eco132 pump @ 132g/h running for 15min at 12:00am/pm plumbed directly to top of rock wool cube.

using General Hydroponics Flora Series nutrients

seeds are sweet 100 cherry tomatos

Start of system
mixed nutes 1/4tsp per gallon of each started system.
picked out 7 seeds and planted them randomly in top of rockwool cube. (they all sprouted) its been about a week since they sprouted have not changed out the rez till today.
the plants look to have purple veins in the leafs along with the stock. some leafs have curled the pictures i posted are of one i pulled due to spotting. at closer examination it looks like the same thing on the other leafs. the underside of some leafs looks purple also.. not sure what this is indicating.
after reading some they all seam to point to a nute deficiency so i changed out the rez. mixed 2.5 gallons of new full strength nutes at 1tsp per gallon of micro bloom and grow...
also originally i had the pump on every 3 hours for 15min. and it started to look like over watering so i cut it back to once every 12 hours for 15min. and they started to grow faster and perk up but the purple is still stumping me.
i also added earth juice oilycan its cal mag and humic acid additive as i was told cal or mag can cause this issue also..

id just like some direct advice. what to put the nutes at with the size and what seams to be causing the issue or if it is even an issue.... thanks again very appreciated

Purple veining and underleaf, according to general literature, usually is indicative of phosphorus deficiency. I don't know much about those expensive liquid nutrients, but you would think they would have enough when mixed according to directions. But if your nute concentration is too low, or your pH is too low, the first things locked out out, as you said, are calcium and magnesium, but don't forget Phosphorus which gets hit even worse ... to which tomatos are very sensitive.

If you overcompensated in preparing the rockwool, you may have lowered the pH a little too much.

If it is the Phosphorus (sounds like it since you said they grew slowly on the initial nutrient - typical of P deficiency), since the leaves don't look yellowing, it looks like Nitrogen was ok, and recovery from Phosphorus deficiency takes a bit longer, your plants would have been stressed and may never be recover to their level had they not been stressed.

If you started out with low strength nutrients for the seedlings, then the Phosphorus was likely limited causing this since tomato has a high Phosphorus demand. If the nutrients are mixed grow/bloom/micro, Bloom is the one with higher Phosphorus, so you might double the bloom and take away 1/3 of micro and 2/3 of grow to maintain similar early EC, and this formulation change will also as a benefit increase both Mg and Ca if it is just the nutrient balance that's out of whack, without going outside your system with new chemicals.

Yum, I'm with you... I only have room for 2 tomatoes in my new retirement garden. (I used to grow 24). I also agree with Carolyn... Taste them in your own garden to try them as I did using pots if necessary. I tried Sweet Million a couple of years ago and it was terrific, but it cracked!! Then last year I tried Nectar. It was even more delicious and no cracking. I planted it again this year but also taste tested it in a pot, along with 5 other cherry tomatoes grown in 1 gallon pots. Now before everyone jumps in to tell me these pots are too small, please note they are TASTING SAMPLERS, not intended to be full grown tomato plants. When I get a taste of the tomatoes to compare, I'll toss the tomato plants. Nectar had to be one of the plants grown in a 1 gallon pot so all tests would be equal. It had ripe fruit second behind Ample which was also very good, but not good enough to bump Nectar out of first place for taste. Still waiting for Sakura, Sunsugar, Sunpeach, and Sugary to ripen. Sugary has the most blossoms at this point... Absolutely loaded beyond belief!! This experiment has been totally perfect in every way for me. It allowed me to see which cherry tomato was the best for my garden and my tastebuds with my qualifications... Early. Sweet. Delicious. No cracking, lots of tomatoes. Nectar wins the test. If I run into a tomato I feel I can't live without, I buy a bigger pot and plant one. :) I encourage you to try it next year and enjoy the ride!! Rebecca

so I dont remove any suckers? so prune what parts? I sure wish I could understand more. even though been gardening for over 40 yrs one way or another. but mostly in the ground stuff Ive got some beets started now in "gutters" the larger aluminum gutters.I tried the toliet paper and or one ply paper towel with "flour glue" but Im thinking the germination rate isnt good. I prob need to put some "bag around them to speed germ. even though it rained lots lately.... The gutters are like 4 foot long each and was cut and made back in former city at a "guttering and siding distributor." with end caps prof applied too. Very resonable priced too. Made while I watched even... I have them setting on brackets outside the deck. Prev I just grew baby lettuces in them....... I made landscape fabric liners to custom fit back then. now the "liners" have kind of deterorated.... We brough them with us when moving... even though Im not fond of growing stuff in plastic, aluminum etc...
