4 hostas need ID, please :)

Need help with names of these 4 hostas. I have had tags on three of them...but over the last few years..POOF..they have gone missing. Never did know the name to one of them.

For my Aunt's 60th birthday I am giving her a part of each hosta that I own...over 80 of them! She has tried for years to get some from me...with no luck! But I really want to be able to label them all for her and for me too. :D

Please help if you can...thank you all for your help!

Hosta #3...it's a bit sun burned...we took out a tree this year...and in the fall it needs to be moved...the green leaves in the middle are the true colors. :)

I've seen so many mis-labelled plants at grocery stores and mass merchants that I don't trust their labels anymore. Sometimes, customers switch the labels accidentally, I know...but I've seen tons of misidentified hostas for sale with adhesive labels stuck ON the pots. Yikes! Scary that hundreds of these go out that way from the growers, huh?! I made a Home Depot run to check theirs out - thanks to Mary4b for the suggestion. I found a number of plants marked as 'Great Expectations' (including quite a few that were actually 'Golden Tiara', and some that were actually 'Krossa Regal'...!) None had the crazy bloom stalk, most had only 1-2 eyes/pot, and all had more corrugation on the leaves. Very few had such streaking. The two GEs that I already have were/are v-e-r-y slow-growing, and took 4 years to become established. They still aren't full sized yet, and this is year #5! The other hostas in that bed go gangbusters - so it's not a deficiency in the soil or culture. All my hostas, (now 100+) except for 'Fire & Ice' and 'Spilt Milk' have thrived. My mystery hosta already had 5-6 eyes in the 1 gallon pot when I bought it, and has already increased quite a bit in size...YAY! Maybe it is a GE that had growth regulators applied to it. I wouldn't mind having one that would grow quickly - patience isn't one of my strengths! ;) Maybe it's some other fast-growing variety. Thank You Forgot to add that when I bought them they were at our local grocery store, so I don't think they are anything specialty. I thought Halcyon too. Patriot sounds familiar. Can't figure the last one. Hope someone can. Can't believe how much they grew in three years. The benefits of mushroom compost I guess.

Maow, you should be able to load one photo per post using the Chrome browser with no issues. Perhaps GW was having an issue earlier? You can also load the pics directly from your phone or iPad directly into a post using the same functionality as you would with a computer. Simply browse for the picture you want to post. An app I use on my iPhone and iPad called PhotoGrid would allow you to add text directly to a photo very easily. You can adjust the font, size and color of the text quite easily within the app. You can also add borders to your photos and do a lot of other editing, including creating collages with multiple pictures. #4 is likely Diamond Tiara.

Can you give us an idea of the size of these plants and also a leaf closeup of a representative leaf.

In the first one there are a couple of leaves in which the gold middle has greened up. Does this happen with all of the leaves or just a few?

#3 appears to be chartreuse/gold. Does it green up during the year or does it start out green and become more gold as the year goes on.

i was thinking one of the albomarginatas.. on 4 .. not the near mini/dwarf ... tiara clan .. undulata????

I'm not great on ID but 3 looks like my Herifu, even down to the faded leaves right now with the heat we are having.

Looks like #3 could be Fire Island does have the red petioles and looks like mine that gets 3 hours of noon day sun.

#3...is Fire Island! That is also a name I already had....you guys are great! Just two more to go! I will add the leaf pictures :D

This is # 1 & 4 together...

#1 is small, around 4 inches tall. The leaves usually have the gold in the middle...only a few stay greened up. the leaves are usually 3 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide...at the widest part.

#4...looks to me to be a more common hosta...this is the one that has never had a name. It is about 10 inches tall, and the leaves are 3 by 2. The flowers on this one are light purple and don't go more then 4-5 inches above the plant.

Sorry if the pictures are turned...can't figure out how to turn them right side up...took the pictures on my phone so my normal photo editing software doesn't work...grrr!

This is a close up of #1 hostas leaf. This one is mostly golden, but some of them have gold and then white in the middle of the gold. I hope all of this makes sense!

Ken's right. #4 is Undulata Albomarginata.

#4 has me puzzled. Maybe Little Sunspot.
