Identify mini penny
Comments (2)You may need to wait for it to bloom as hydrangeas without blooms can be impossible to identify. Then again, so would be a Mini Penny from a regular sized one. The wholesaler may have some notes that can help you (I think Monrovia could help if you contacted them). http://www.monrovia.com/plant-catalog/plants/1336/mini-penny-hydrangea.php http://www.hydrangea.com/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=2078 This post was edited by luis_pr on Wed, Jun 12, 13 at 10:24...See MoreSome impressive mini'''s
Comments (8)Thanks for the compliments all. I will try to answer your questions in order here. MICHELLE I planted my Leading Lady bushes in April after receiving them from Dennis Bridges in band pots. And yes, they are both 4' tall and bloom like crazy with floribunda sized blooms. They are never without blooms as they repeat flower super quickly. I love them. MDSEAGULL I have two TITD bushes and they have a definite bushy growth habit, with very little uprightness to them. Still, I get decent stems and of course the foliage is beautiful and make an excellent backdrop for the brick colored blooms of which there are aplenty. Each bush is about 2 1/2' tall and about as wide. These are new to me this year, so I can't say yet whether it will eventually put out some nice big basals or will just stay shrubby looking as some do. Either way, this rose is a winner. RENEYDA I am photo challenged unfortunately and have had no luck posting pictures, but I will try to do it if possible. GARDENFANATIC I live in St. Joseph, MO so I am probably closer to you than we realize. Where are you from?? My Leading Lady bushes have huge flowers that always open with pink edging on a white bloom that will fade out as the blooms age and if it gets really hot. Upon finishing, they are mostly about pure white. I really like this cultivar alot even if it is a big one!! John...See MoreFirst to Bloom - Pennies from Heaven
Comments (21)Thanks, Jean and Carol. Yes, I think iris and daylilies fit in well in rose beds. Even when not blooming, the foliage hides the roses' skinny legs! Some are concerned they will get too much nitrogen, but that hasn't been a big problem for me. And, Carol, since you are in the area, I got Different Flavors at a Dallas Iris Society sale. For your information, the next sales are on August 9 and September 6 at North Haven Gardens in Dallas. Also, this Sunday is their Iris Show. It is at the Pavillion Bldg. on the Texas A&M campus in Dallas. The address is 17360 Coit Road at McCallum and it is open to the public from 1:00 to 4:00....See MoreWill Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mini Penny' recover-eaten by deer?
Comments (2)Sorry to hear that, deltaskye. But yes, it should recover. Most if not all hydrangea varieties are on the deer's plates everywhere. It may take a year or two to get "everything looking right" but yes, they will be ok. The plants will develop new stems and new branches where they want so you may need to prune after they leaf out (or after they bloom - just so you enjoy bloomage) to get some stuff looking right.Similar recoveries have also happened even when someone accidentally cut them all off to 1" high stems. Just wait and check periodically check to see if you need to make a cut here or there as new parts grow....See Moremelaroma
