Why has 1 Blue Cadet come up & not the other?

One Blue Cadet has sent up many pips and is starting to unfurl, while a mere 3' away, there is nothing but mulch to see instead of the second BC. Is this weird or not?

Of all my hostas, Undulata mediopictus is totally up and growing big, Maui Buttercups just pipped, Cracker Crumbs just pipped, Little Treasure is up and growing well, little green leaves which I think belong to Yellow Eyes are up and running, Raspberry Sundae has a leaf and a half up (someone ate the other half of that leaf while it was furled). I'm still waiting for Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, First Mate, and Cherish. I hope they're OK!

I just had some very nice new aluminum pet tags made up at PetTags4Less.com at a very reasonable price (and free shipping!). They look beautiful! I just installed one with a stainless steel key ring onto a stainless steel skewer I bent the ring closed on, to identify one of my hostas after the "landscape workers" probably knocked it off.

Esther, I have 3 'Francee' planted in a row about 2' apart. The center plant is leafing out, maybe another week and it'll be leafed out fully. The plants to it's left and right are juuust starting to show pips. My point being the center plant is weeks ahead of the other two. So, maybe not so weird. Hope everything comes up OK in your beds!

Thanks, Don. I am anxious that they are not dead.

I was expecting a shipment of 5 new hostas today from Made in the Shade. They are already 2 days overdue from the "estimated delivery date". Rob Mortko, the proprietor said not to worry. But I worry!

I hope I don't have to replace the hostas that didn't come up and I hope I get my shipment safely.

The left tension pulley on my LT 1045 Cub Cadet was about 1/2 inch to low and at an angle that took it out of a horizonal plane with the ajacent pullys. Took deck off and removed the bracket that holds both tension pullys. Put the defective pulley in a metal vise and hammered it so that its angle when reinstalled was parralell to the ajacent pullys. This solved the problem. I called Cub Cadet and spoke with the technical representative and he told me that the bracket I had to bend was bent out of shape because I, as many people do, engaged the electric pto to the blades while the deck was in level 3 to mow. He told me to put the deck in its highest position before engaging the pto to engage the blades. This alleviates the stress on the Kevlar belt that is trying to come up to 3600 rpm while in the grass before they start to rotate. This can eventually bend the bracket that holds the tension pulleys. He said he is trying to tell the company to include this in the owners manual.

GON-a 6 months newbie: Welcome! Live long and prosper! Two springs ago I'd bought a young hosta that had 3 strong "eyes". When I buy hostas in early spring I often repot them into slightly larger pots if the roots are circling the nursery pot. This one I divided into three pots with Root Blast added to the mix. The first year they added no new leaves. This is their 3rd year now and the largest is over 55 inches across. So I can attest to what has already been said in the above replys-if the plant looks healthy above ground level, it is probably doing something good below; and that is good. General Color Patented Hosta Journal 1986:2:BC; 1992:1:Opp 46; 1992:1:Opp 47; Hosta Library Blue - White Show me the white, refractions are not color I should know I am an expert at that one I am an Optician. The patent is gone as of last year the regestry should be updated by some one to show no patent and no white colorations. I wish I had all those Journals. A white margined Blue Cadet would be worth the money for which they ask, other there is no such thing as a Blue Cadet in my opinion. Where is George when you need him, OK I've got George now, what's that George the registry is riged, oh sorry that was not George, he says it is just a blue green hosta no varigation no margins that is all that it is, I want my five dollar back now , right now, righ. Thanks Yardmom and Lainey! Yes, the Little Henry's will get 3-4 feet in width and height. I'm leery about planting anything too large or too close to the Henry's due to (hopefully) their pending maturity. Does the 'June' tend to revert back to a non-variegated form? I tried doing a Google image search for Lullabye, but couldn't come up with any pictures. Do you have any you could share? Thanks!

Esther, the pet tags are an interesting and creative solution to the signage for hosta. Very original, lady. Keep us informed of how they endure the abuse bound to come their way.

My tags this year had to be repainted, a real pain. Some had twisted stakes from falling tree parts, bent labels, but none were missing. My order for more paint pens comes in ....tomorrow I think? I really depend on my name tags being in the pictures I take.

Well, Moccasin, I knew about pet tags, having cats (who, paradoxically, don't wear collars or tags, but you are aware of these things when you own pets anyway). I knew about stainless steel skewers and that nice ring they have shaped on them. I just combined the 2 concepts. The only bad thing that happens to them is the "landscape workers", who manage to cause the tags to come off the skewers and get lost.

I just got word that my hosta shipment from Made in the Shade will arrive today, yippee! Can't till the Neighbor's Plot til Sunday, so I will just inspect the plants and leave them wrapped for Saturday. No sense in potting them if I'm gonna put 'em in the ground Sunday, right?
