Can I plant a climbing Hydrangea Petiolaris on a 40 ft tree?

I have a nearly bare pine tree along the back of my yard, which is bare for the first 30-35 feet before it branches with needles due to shady conditions. I think it is perfect for a vine, and would like to plant a climbing petiolaris. I see one on the way to work each morning growing up a utility pole, and it is really beautiful in a woodland setting. Would this be too big a plant for the pine?
