Question for our potheads in the Forum; If you could choose a couple of varieties I just acquired and put 'em in pots, what would be your choices be? I just put my 'Elegans' in a big pot on the front porch, and plan to add several more 'permanently' potted Hosta in front and out back on the deck. That way, guests can't escape or avoid Hostas, no matter how hard they try! Mwa ha haa...Really though, it's all(mostly) BABKA'S fault, how can I NOT at least attempt to make awesome-looking potted Hosta arrangements after seeing her pics?? Yes, I've got the fever, and the prescription is MORE HOSTA!!

Nice haul Don. I might have to stop by and see Green Mountain when I'm in Vermont this summer.

I like to put the ruffled edged hostas in pots.

Go for it Don! Put whatever you like to look at in a pot. When you change your mind...change the hosta. If you put a nursery plastic pot inside a decorative pot, you can switch things around easily. You don't have to commit to just one. Nothing is "permanent". As soon as you find the perfect group, one will crap out. Oh well. You have a BIG bunch of fabulous hostas you have to play with. Have fun!

Looks like you are selling something different and inquiring about potheads. Sorry one of them flash backs they warned me about somewhere in the '70. My order came yesterday too! Very exciting as I made it in January and had kinda forgotten as I was ordering away with other companies. Add Hosta Pearl Lake to your next order and you will be pleased. Try Greenhouse Megastore for your pot order. I was very pleased and quick delivery. Have fun with pots. It puts the easy back in gardening. IMHO.

That should cheer you up after the big freeze. Aphrodite and Earth Angel will both like half a day of sun. Here they get direct sun until 11 or 12, and they've grown like weeds.

I'm with Gesila, ruffles are good in pots. If it were me, Spring Fling and Retillian would be in pots.

Great haul!

I like to mix the colors of my pots. I found I had mostly variegated ones and have started to add some solid colors. (I'm still lusting after that huge, multi-eyed Manhattan I saw a couple of weeks ago.) The solids give you something to set off the all the interesting patterns.

Of course, I have my Holy Mole in a container, but I know you have PLANS for that boy to grace the bed between house and fence.

Halcyon is a lovely thing in a container.
I'd also consider ONE of the Royal Standards in a pot. Even though it is green as can be, it is pretty.
And definitely Satisfaction works beautifully in a pot. Mine shot up last spring very early, and again this year was one of the first to fill out the pot and look good. It bloomed early last year as well, but everything was early last year.

My S&S is potted, but oh mercy, I see a whiskey barrel in that hosta's future. And it will be located somewhere that needs NO MOVING. It is in a fairly large square pot now, and it is piling new leaves all over itself. Is this what is meant by LEAPING?

I went outside with my smarty phone to take photos of the pots and wound up taking more than pots. I'll be browsing the pot source given by Paula. The cheap pots from WalMart with saucers built onto the bottom are not meant for hosta. I drilled holes in all the saucers to improve drainage. They still don't work quite right. But Lowes now sells a smooth sided nursery pot with holes on the sides that works great too. Very sturdy. But black only.

Wow Moccasinlanding, it's getting big all right! I have a nice bed all prepped for my 'Sum and Substance', 'Sum of All' 'Sum-Cup-O-Joe' and quite a few others that will be planted in front of 'em. That tiered retaining planter I made, I think 'Alligator Shoes' is going to be featured front and center in there. Steve is right, that's a stunning plant, and needs to be a centerpiece. 'Satisfaction', yours looks so great in a pot, I think I'll be potting that one up ASAP. Well, enjoy the day, I'm off to get more topsoil! :)

Gee, Don! You sound so cheerful. I do not think anything can get you down.

You remind me of a story about a little boy who was always optimistic, always looked on the bright side of things. A neighbor was wondering if any circumstance might phase his positive outlook. So, he took the little boy to his barn, and asked him to shovel a big pile of......horse manure. The little boy sat about the task, humming as he shoveled, a smile on his face. Well, the neighbor watched for a bit and then asked, "Why are you humming and smiling? Are you not discouraged by such a dirty job?" The boy looked up and barely paused in his shoveling to say, "Heck no....with that much horse manure there has to be a pony in there somewhere!"

Oh I forgot.....my GreenMt order is due to arrive Wednesday or Thursday.

And a "supplemental" Naylor order comes tomorrow I think.

Haven't heard from Van Wade on the extensive FRAGRANT order I submitted to see what was available to ship. I'll call them Monday. But I'm making serious inroads on Don Rawson's Fragrant-Flowered Hosta List with this order. All but the most expensive, and I'm saving those for a late fall order.

Hmmm, and the week after Mother's Day, I get an order from Savory, to include their brand newly registered FRAGRANT hosta, DAN PATCH. I so look forward to getting it.

It is so hard to stop wanting more hosta....sigh.....

We only share âÂÂEarth Angelâ and âÂÂSatisfactionâ surprisingly. I see you got âÂÂDream QueenâÂÂ. I have âÂÂDream Weaverâ which IMO is the same plant.

Yes indeed, pics as they arrive. It was pretty much a coin-flip on 'Dream Queen' or 'Dream Weaver'...Same price, same looks, etc.

Yeah, not used to just getting pips, but that's certainly not an issue. I am enjoying watching my 'Sum and Substance' pips ROCKETING out of the bed!
