It had been in a bigger pot since I got it as a band in Sept, 2007. I planted it in Jan, 2008, and this photo was taken on 2/8/08. So it was pretty little but not a band. A month later it had a flower bud on it. Interestingly, with the same clusters of leaves and a bud at the end of the cane. I guess that's just how it gets going. It still has these short thin canes. It put out 2 or 3 big basal canes last year and several thin laterals in the top third. The posts are 8' tall, so I'd say her growth is about 11' at this point. I'm going to have to put a couple brackets on those posts toward the garage for her to climb on. Sherry

this is one of the most interesting threads that I have read. I have limelights. 4 plants, planted at same time, came from same nursery and planted adjacent to each other. They are mature plants now. 2 bloomed profusely this year. The other 2 have scores of "blooms" which did not "open up" or rather "fully develop". (Very similar to the stories above.) We could not figure out how 4 identical plants, planted at same time, same age, same variety, same light, same pruning technique and same location could produce extravagant blossoming blooms on 2 plants and stunted blooms that never mature on the other 2. This at least gives me two theories, (different moisture and sterile blooms). I did notice that the bees were going CRAZY on the plants that bloomed more profusely.

I have failed at pictures thus far.. I work a full time job, and also run my own business so this post hasn't gotten much attention lately! We did have a cool spell for about a week and I noticed that the leaves started looking healthy again, despite my having forgotten to hand water. It looks like this is basically transplant shock that is only appearing when the higher temps come around which makes sense seeing it is a more stressful environment. I think all in all, I should just leave the thing alone and let the roots re-establish themselves. I was surprised since it really isn't that hot, but it looks like 80's and the plant is happy, 90's and the plant gets cranky. All that being said, the wood isn't dying back, and the leaves have stopped dropping so I think it will manage to survive. I will top dress next year to try and give the soil a bit more nutrient density and otherwise just see how things go! Didn't want to leave this post hanging. Thanks again for all the comments.

the legendary.. i dragged it home chained to my bumper farmboy??? .. long time.. no time .. how is the house itself going??? any chance i can see the facade of the house again ... youve been doing this long enough.. does this really surprise you ???? chicago.. right.. nearly equivalent to my MI ... they are still dormant.. right .... ?? ... you are going to have to wait until they bud out.. and then go in and prune out the dead stuff ... and see what you are left with ... i have often found.. that mild winters are worse than cold ones.. the evergreen plants go in and out of dormancy to some extent ... and that can cause the burn.. even on plants that werent moved ... and i might bet.. that is the afternoon side of the plants .. and/or the windward side of winter winds ... am i close??? if they bud out.. trim them up.. and keep them properly watered.. especially in the heat of late july and august .. and deep into fall ... they are ridiculously stressed. they are not hungry.. no fert ... what else have you dragged home lately ??? ken
