Female Ruby Throat. Wow you sure have lots of stuff still blooming. I'm down to Mums and not much else, I really need to get more longer lasting plants for my hummers. West Michigan is a trickey gardening spot, you never know from one year to the next what to plant where. Great pics!

That plant is a Pineapple Sage...I've planted one every year up here for the last 5 years, but this is the first time I've seen a Hummer at it.

You make me laugh when you apologize for the quality. I would be thrilled to get one picture that clear, and you have several. I took pictures the other night of my visitor, and they are like "Where's Waldo." I know where the hummer is, but I don't know if anyone else could find it. LOL It just makes me more determined to get a good picture.

Great pictures! So, this is the pineapple sage everyones been talking about. I never bothered to Google it, d'oh! Guess I'll have to be adding that to the garden next year; it's lovely. I still have plenty blooming, but boy, was it chilly last night. I went out on the deck this am and the thermometer said 47! 5 minutes later my little girl was at the feeder, then on the salvia. As much as I don't want to see her go, I'm hoping she'll move on soon...

From the look of the stipling on the throat in your second picture, it appears to be a 1st yr hatchling MALE ruby throated hummer, if I am not mistaken. Anyone else agree ?

Buffbellies - I'd sortof agree regarding that possibly being a juvie male. Although I have read that some females can have a bit of coloration in their throat. However in the above's case, it's pretty significant. Sometimes if the light hits the bird a certain way when the pic is taken, the beginnings of a few ruby red feathers in the form of a dot can be seen somewhere in the throat area.

Lelli, I can understand your joy in seeing a hummingbird. I have tried to get them to stop by in SW Florida. After 5 years, one stopped by last week at the feeder. I couldln't believe it. She only stayed for three mornings but I was beside myself. Loved your pictures.

That's a great plant. It even attracts fish!

I was happy to see my hummer this weekend. We wondered if it is the same one we enjoyed all summer. It looked the same, but the feeding habits were different. It dosen't seem to notice the Black and Blue even though it is covered in bloom. The regular lived at the Black and Blue.

Pineapple Sage is just starting to bloom here.
