Results of today's treasure hunt!

I just got home from the Georgia Hosta Society's Show and Sale. What a great event. First I went inside and checked out the specimens being judged. Then I went outside to the vendor area. Most of the vendors are hosta nurseries that I had heard of but never had a chance to visit. It was wonderful to meet all the growers and listen to all the other hosta lovers' excitement as they found a hosta (or more) that they had hoped to get. I could have bought double what I did but decided it would be fun to leave a few to still hope for.

Here's my haul,

The tall one in the back is Niagra Falls,

then middle row, left to right-Red Dragon, Carousel,Olive Branch,Pineapple Upsidedown Cake,Liberty,Rainforest Sunrise and Allegan Fog

the little guys in front-Winter Lightning, Stolen Kiss, Remember Me,Crystal Tiara, Limey Lisa and Masquerade

I found a dozen or so morels in my own backyard yesterday! I was terrified to eat them until I had done enough research to convince myself that I had the real thing. The first I floured and sauteed. The next I sauteed in butter and garlic, added in some asparagus and a dash of cream. Topped with a bit of fresh-grated Asiago cheese. Yum. Today I made the same recipe, but used fresh nettles from the yard instead of the asparagus. But now I want more. I plan to walk the woods tomorrow--and hope.

Lisa - I think Asian Fairy Bluebird looks a lot like Lambertson's website photo. Of course, I took my photo in the shade. This flower does look much bluer in the shade than in the sun. While the bloom is gorgeous, the plant has not been a good performer for me. Bud counts are low and not every mature fan puts up a fan. It does multiply well though. Jean - Thanks for your comments. Oh, thank you, Janet! I do have cats--two. but they are "house-cats" only! I use to have cats that came and went during the day, but I would worry, so much, if they didn't show up by "bedtime" and we do live in a plat with busy roads nearby! I decided, I prefer to know "where they are" at all times! One of them two, is a "Ragdoll" breed that knows no enemies so would not know to defend itself against an aggressive dog! Our Lab and these two cats think they are "kin" and play together like you wouldn't believe!! I have seen a cat "lurking" in and out of our place, but I'd eventually wind up "taking it in" if it came too often, and I do not need another indoor cat!! I also love my squirrels and chips and birds so I do not welcome a "hunter-cat" for those reasons!! Too bad they can't be trained to be "prey-specific"! LOL janice

Lynn. ... Glad you decided to get out and shop 'on your own'..All those wonderful buys would have passed you by if your decided not to.. Your gourd is really a beautiful piece and works perfectly in your home and where you've placed it. Those napkin rings are really lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing those in one of your tablesettings. I agree, that Floral Pitcher was meant for you..it's lovely. Also... I LOVE your Red Transferware Cups...and their pattern. Ok, here's the funny thing. When I left this morning, the only hosta I had on my "gotta have" list was Liberty. I was just looking at my pic and thought, hmmm, that doesn't look like Liberty. Sure enough, I just went out and checked and it's Diana Remembered! LOL. I guess with all the chaos someone grabbed my Liberty.
Oh well, one to search for I guess.

I need Liberty too but never seem to find it--instead find others that catch my eye. LOL Nice Bunch!! Enjoy

Hi bocron...Do you remember which vendor had 'Liberty' for sale? I have been looking for one and haven't found a local source. Bill Silvers (Silvers-Elbert Nursery) has 'Majesty', which is similar and the Jolly's (Pine Forest Gardens) doesn't list it on their website. I'm sure Bud Martin (Colonial Farms) was there, but he is usually looking for a "quick turn" and in the past, would never purchase TC's. Were there other vendor's there?

Oh Pineapple Upside Down Cake- one of my favorites! It is huge and love the way it turns colors. I have had it two years now, and it is finally getting bigger.

WOW oh WOW!!! I'm a new to this hosta frenzy, but I'm here drooling!!! Was this the hosta show that was near Atlanta? I'm not far from there, when is the next one?? I want to go. I have some hosta's, what I think are liberty, they huge, I mean huge,I'm gonna have to measure them, I had wanted to seperate them and make more, but didn't get a chance too before they grew so big, now I'm afaird to.

I love the different look of the leaves on these Annette.

I'm glad to see what some I have will look like when they're a bit more mature.

You got a Red Dragon. Tooo cool. I am dying for the red hosta. So far, I've lost 3 Red October and 2 Cherry Berry. Not sure why, but ooooo I want a Red Dragon!

Sounds like blast. I really need to check out the hosta society here in the DC area. I got a White Christmas from them my first year gardening and still love it.

georgia-rose The Liberty was from Colonial Farms, Bud wasn't there as he's been ill lately, but his wife brought a great selection. I guess I'll make a road trip LOL. Sounds like a great excuse for a drive.

whip1 Yes, that is a MINI, my other obsession!! I bought the Red Dragon to commemorate my yearly trip to "The Dragon" (a road that runs between NC and TN) where 500+ MINIs and their drivers gather the first weekend in May every year!

cfmuehling, one of the other hostas I wanted to buy was Torchlight. They only had one left so I let my friend buy it. Go check in out on the hostalibrary.

Bocron, in one of the auto forums I frequent, one of the posters told us about a trip they just had on the dragon. They showed a video, and it was Mini after Mini! They said they had a blast, and it sounds like you did too! Small world!

Coincidently, I talked to Bud on Monday. Several friends that were at the Hosta Show said that Bud was unable to attend and called to see how he was doing.
He said he had several new cultivars to offer, including 'Liberty' and 'Dream Queen'. I too, feel a road trip is coming up!
I haven't been able to attend the GHS Cut-leaf show for a few years, as it seems it is always scheduled on a Saturday that conflicts with a long time committment for another activity.
Enjoy your Hostas, as I'm sure you will, and I hope neither of us run out of water before it rains again!
