I use a liquid weed killer for southern lawns. You will find at least two brands at the big box stores. I never get all the weeds out of the lawn, but at least the week killer helps. Make sure it is not a total vegetation killer, but one for southern lawns like bahia. Timing is important. Do it in the spring and fall when the weather is cool and the grass is not stressed from drought.

Smack the armadillo in the head with a shovel and bury him. If he's dug a burrow in your garden, drop a few mothballs down the chute and it'll flush him out and keep him out.

Armadillo hunts for grubs in your yard. Get some grub killer and you won't have your yard look like a bomb went off.

Yes, dollar weed means you are wasting your dollars on water. Change the automatic sprinklers!

Dollar weed comes from low oxygen in the soil. This usually is caused by overwatering, but it can also be caused by compaction in high foot traffic areas or where vehicles park or drive on the grass.

Yes it did. It worked its way through the soil and helped the ongoing poisoning of the aquifer. You'll be drinking that stuff soon enough.

LindaLeaf, Jerryattreezoo, so you think sprinklers running 2 times a week is too much? All of my plants are doing well so I am afraid once a week will not be enough. It is not a high traffic area either so I don't know what is going on. Perhaps I will change that particular sprinkler zone to a shorter run and see if that helps. Thanks for the input.
Fawnridge, that is why I have never used anything on the lawn, just fertilizer and compost. Did you hear about the radiation in the well water in Loxahatchee? Scary, I lived there for years.

Check with your water company as to when you are allowed to water your lawn. Most of Florida is on restrictions. In my county, we can water the lawn once a week on a day coresponding with our address. You may want to cut back to once a week. Also you may be watering your lawn too long per cycle. Check with your County Extention Service and ask them what they recommend for your lawn. Put out small cups or tuna cans throughout the yard to measure how much of an inch of water you put on your yard with each watering cycle and adjust your timer accordingly. Dollar weed is a good sign of too much water.

Thanks for all the suggestions and info. My sprinklers are on a well so at least I am not running up my water bill. I cut them back to once a week and shortened the running time. I may actually just run them manually occasionally until I get the dollar weed and other weeds under control. I read that bahia grass does thin out over a few years and needs to be over seeded occasionally. I will try that this spring.

Your elevation and the slope of your yard may also have something to do with it. If you're in a low spot for your neighborhood then you'll need less water than your neighbors because all of their excess is draining towards you. And even just a few centimeters can make a difference in spots. I have two plumbago bushes just ten feet from each other in identical light and soil conditions but the slight slope of the yard means that one gets too much run-off and will never ever be happy. (Guess I should rip it out, but the list of shoulds is long in my yard.)
Another thing you should consider is a septic tank. Do you have one? Did the house have one at some point? If you only have dollar weeds in a certain area, it might be a septic tank that is causing that area of the yard to drain differently from the rest of the yard.

Thanks for all the input. My yard is actually high with a drainage cannal behind me. I am not on a septic tank either. My house is not even 4 years old yet so all of the plantings are fairly new. I think I just have really poor soil and needed to add amendments to, not only my planting beds but the whole yard. When my builder preped the lot he clear cut all of the trees and vegitation, unforetunately. I am determined to get it all straight by this summer, if it is the last thing I do!
