Heathcote Garden

I went to the plant sale at Heatcote Garden today and wanted to share, with those of you who have not visited Heatcote or attended a sale, how really really nice it is. If you have nothing to do tomorrow and aren't too far from Ft.Pierce, and you would appreciate a realy nice get-away kind of day and you like gardening, you might think about taking a trip there. We had good food , nice (gentle) live ensemble music, enjoyed a presentation on tropical fruit and a taste testing afterwards (finally tried black sapote). We almost didn't get out of the childrens activity area (nature walks (with magnifying glass), face painting, all kinds of arts and crafts including potting vegetable seeds that the kids get to take home with them and of course the walk through the different areas of the garden. We bought another fruit tree and a Sweet Almond bush. Oh and we weren't able to get past the butterfly vendor without buying a Pipevine Swallowtail chrysalis that is going to "hatch" in the next few days. All the activities were free after admission.

And I met a fellow gardenwebber Sharon there as well!

Just a really nice gentle day I wanted to share with you.

Oh no, I missed you too. I was wearing a name tag in case anyone was there from GW. I always go but mostly hang out at the venders getting plants. You did some of the fun things that are offered too.

The sweet almond verbena is I think my most favorite plant. It blooms all year for me, the bees love it and you can smell it from the other side of the garden. I am making mine a tree. If you know me, you know that isn't a surprise. :o) I make everything a tree!

Hi Veronika, Thats very kind of you, thank you. We like visiting with you guys, especially J3, he is special. We used to ride to Mounts just to bum around, this is before my little prius got smashed. Some guy hit me from behind on 9/28. The estimated date of repair is 11/30 ! In the mean time we bought a car that has better plant carrying capability but the tank empties alot faster, so we go less and not as far as we used to. We are kinda impressed with the replacement car and will most likely sell the prius when we get it back. We have been without it so long I pretty much have forgotten what it even looks like anymore. I hope the Pencil Cactus fits in you cactus garden easily. I have one like the one you now have and I plan on training it to be tree like. Evelyn, You are sooo smart. That may be the very reason the plants werent reduced one cent. Are you planning on going to that sale?

thanks for your post. I've added Heathcote to my future "visit" list. You got a pipevine chrsalis!!! That's one of the butterflies on my "wanted" list (I have lot's of lists-lol).

If you have the name of the butterfly vendor could you share it?

I am sorry I missed you too! It would be really nice meeting up with gardenwebbers. To bad we don't have a logo that we can pin on when we go to plant sales and exhibits! What plants did you get? We bought a Redland White Sapote, the Sweet Almond, chrysalis,hot dogs, BBQ and lots of homemade cookies (brought some home)- just barely passed the hot chocolate (and it was cool enough sweater weather to really enjoy it.)

I can't remember the name but checked the vendor's list and the only one that mentions butterflies is "Exotic Hibiscus and butterflies". I hope this is the vendor!

It was a great weekend. I call Heathcote my home away from home, my happy place. There were over fifty vendors there sellling fabulous stuff. I bought more than I planned too (went over my budget). jstropic described it perfectly. I was so happy to meet some other GW Florida gardeners. I am looking forward to getting together again and touring eachothers gardens! - Sharon

Sharon, how did I miss you too. I had a name tag on that said Katkin. I think Marion had a good idea, next time we agree to meet at the lunch area at noon. Send me an email if you ever want to tour my garden.:o)

I am a volunteer at Heathcote, I worked in the children's garden/craft section on Saturday morning. On Sat afternoon I worked at Marian's garden booth. On Sunday I was at the volunteer booth, I goofed off as much as I could though, I bet we walked right by each other. I will be looking for nametags at the next garden show/sale I attend. I think there is one in Vero is coming up.
Imatallun said she is interested in a group tour after the holidays. I think that would be great! - Sharon
