I had decided I was officially done buying this year as I no longer have any room! Of course, after I had decided this, yet another kind neighbor brought over (in a wagon) a division of her sum and substance....ask me how long it took me to find a home for that one!! It took even longer knowing it HVX is commonly seen in this cultivar. I couldn't resist accepting it though and those beautiful ginormous leaves! Cautious...not fearful...

Her plant (before division) was perfect and she's had it for quite a while so I'm hoping its safe!

I can not thank everyone in this forum enough for all the help, tips and advice. Your kindness and patience through all of this has been much appreciated. I imagine that teaching the newbies can be repetitive and frustrating at times!

I now have 36 hostas, 21 being different cultivars....and I only bought 6! Not bad for my first go at this! I can't wait for my garden "plan" to be fulfilled...yes Ken, I'm still holding true to my plan!

Erin, your Cracker Crumbs is HUGE! WOW, what a find.
Great Sun Power, got one that has a head start on showing its dominance of the garden. Your Patriot has much wider margins than mine.....but then mine is not doing so well, smaller this year in general.

It's good to have a plan, keeping to it is hard to do. Keep up the good gardening...

I haven't seen a Blue Mouse Ears in person, so I cannot say if the resemblance to Nippers is anywhere close.

This is my Nippers, in its second year. It is as green as can be now, but it was blue green early in the year. It is piling one leaf on top of another in a very unruly fashion. Sort of round ears on it, I'd say. Honest, no steroids in his water!

This was taken May 6 2013. He'll keep getting darker and a sort of snubbed silk shine to the leaves. A classy little hosta.
You might like to get him.

Naw I sure wouldn't throw them out either. ;) I just hope we can settle the issue before next season. I know Annie's recipe contains alternate instructions for PC vs. BWB and the times differ on them and I wonder if folks aren't confusing the 2 different times. There are so many discussions on the recipe about modifications that it is difficult to tell which ones are valid and which aren't. Plus I know there is a quote here somewhere about how the quarts aren't approved. But so far I can't find it. All I can go by is my copy of Annie's recipe from when it was first posted here years back: process pints at 10 lbs of pressure for 30 minutes. Makes 6 pints. Dave

Bobby~your quilt turned out great! I agree tying or tacking, using one of your decorative stitches on your new sewing machine, would be perfect. I second what Teresa said, this quilt would be too frustrating for you to try free motion to quilt it, simply because of the size. About the border, your teacher was "teaching" you the right way to attach the borders. The pressed marks she had you do are guides to match to corresponding marks you make on the quilt top dividing it into quarters. You then 'ease in the difference' (like the lady had you do) between the the quarters, spreading or stretching as necessary throughout, so you end up with flat borders. It is more work, but you will be happy with the results- the easy way isn't always the best way when sewing :)(said very nicely). Your teacher sounds good, and her job is to annoy you with the right way, so you will be happy with the results. All that said - many people do it the easy way~LOL. When you wash your quilt, make sure to use Color Catchers - it concerns me that the dripping water from an iron is making some of your fabrics bleed. The Color catchers will keep those loose dyes from redepositing on your fabrics. You should be very proud of your quilt. I wondered if you gave up- I am so glad you kept working on it.

We had our kitchen priced at a big box store. Then we called some custom places. Custom was half the price! The guy we ended up going with is so easy to work with and you don't end up with a bunch of filler pieces because they can just make the cabinet the exact size that you need (true custom places can anyway some order in the boxes and make the doors). The other great thing about our guy is that we went from melamine to solid wood and the price upcharge was only about $500. We went from 36' to 48'' uppers and it didn't add any additional cost. We went frameless and it was the same price, he said it is cheaper to make since it is less material! We had him make us a sample cabinet to get a feel for quality since it really can vary from place to place. His quality is amazing, really sturdy and feels very upper end. Pullout shelves, $25 a piece. Raised panel doors add $25 a door since it is more material. The price difference is amazing and the nice thing about finding a small company that is easy to deal with is that they don't really charge you a bunch more for the trendy stuff just the actual cost diff. in material prices and labor.

I'm actually really loving your happy hearts!! What a great photo!

I bought the blue mouse ears because my landscaper friend who helped me redesign the front garden, recommended I get some miniature hostas to place around the rock and the tree. He suggested blue for one side and yellow for the others...BME and cracker crumbs just happen to stumble on me the next day!

Cracker crumbs was a good find. It was very big...so big that it practically divided itself while I was taking it out for planting. Even divided, it is still huge and very full! I almost died when I saw it! It was the only one and was one of my "must haves" which I made to help me control my hosta buying itch. Lol...so much for that idea...
